'Ending discrimination' IS one of the charter purposes of the UN (more or less). The goal of the UN - pretty much the only goal, really - is to have equality among people's of all races and nations.

Ending discrimination is part of that, obviously.

I guess if you were a JW you could read 'the need to stop discriminating against other religions' as a 'ban on your religion', since that's basically all they do - but the charter and resolutions do not actually go that far.

Article I, paragraph 3 of the UN charter:

" To achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion"

My sister went to a JW based private school. One of the teachers I assumed because the seniors were getting out of control distrubuted the hoax to all the students thinking it was real. It is funny to see pot smoking, fornicating, porneites, actually cower in fear and "become spiritually awakend"(funny considering many were already pioneers). It lasted about a week while they combed CNN looking for the black helicopters. Then back to knocking on doors and knocking up each other.

During the mid 1980's, there was a proposed resolution that talked about religious discrimination and other concerns

about religion by member states. Like many UN resolutions, it went nowhere.

The UN can't ban religion or much of anything else. They can't stand up to gun toting insurgents anywhere in the

world and their blue helmeted soldiers are little more than uninspired state mercenaries. They ran away in Afghanistan

and in Iraq because they got scared.

BOO! Ghost 2 A couple of last JW cult indoctrination holdouts: ( 1 ) Rev. 17:17.." and God will put it into their hearts..." This is a WT key scripture that they interpret/attribute to the world's secular leaders viz. the united nations finally getting sick and tired of all the strife caused by 'false religion'.When this Wt prophecy is fulfilled the UN will 'outlaw' all religion with 'extreme violence'. To quote the WT$, they will 'burn her with fire'.Yes, the WT$ Say's "that every nun, priest and all of "Babylon the great's" clergy class will be executed and every non Jw house of worship will be 'burned to the ground'".Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses standing alone against the 'Godless hordes of Gog of Magog'.....

Well, folks this dire apocalyptic scenario sounds plausible when you stop and think, that indeed a lot of the world's problems i.e. global terror , is linked to religion.Didn't Karl Marx say," religion is the opium of the people?Guess what?? The Wt just joined the United Nations, and it ain't divine province to attribute world distress to religion.Just look at all the family destruction and turmoil instigated by your's truly Jw's.Besides the demons who are the authors of WT$ 'profitcy$' would know this......

Holdout # 2 The WT$ predicted the the advent of the UN viz.'the disgusting thing that causes desolation'.That it would rise up as a sequel to the defunct WW1 League of nations. You know what? The demons could tell this one too...... Skull

    Is

the U.N. Maneuvering to Curb Religion?

"ONCE upon a time," observed England?s Manchester Guardian, "the United States and others saw the United Nations as the champion of human rights and impartial defender of general faiths." For many years people admired the U.N.?s famous Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a model for freedom. But now, says the Guardian, "disillusionment" has set in. Why the change?

Well, some accuse the U.N. Commission on Human Rights of behaving contrary to its intended purpose. For example, when the American representative returned from the commission?s 1976 session in Geneva, he was indignant over what had happened there. In a public protest on April 1, he made some startling accusations.

First, he charged, a proposed declaration on religious freedom "is slowly taking shape as a twisted text designed to limit religious freedom and individual belief on the pretext that religion breeds intolerance, racism, and colonialism, causing threats to peace and . . . state security."

The delegate, Leonard Garment, asserted that the declaration as now worded "can serve to undermine the legitimacy of religious organizations and religious practices, and may indeed be used to legitimize their repression."

Second, he attacked another resolution recently adopted at the 1976 session on the "right to life." This resolution?s true import, he charged, is that "if the State determines in some manner that it is not ?secure?, or . . . that there is a ?threat to peace?, then it can now, with the formal endorsement of the UN Human Rights Commission, suspend all other human rights?speech, religious exercise, assembly, emigration?until the threat to the supreme ?right to life? passes

Hey Rocky, I was thinking about the pic in your profile. Using the way addresses are numbered in the USA, 667 would be the neighbour across the street of 666. The next-door neighbour would be 664 or 668. Glad I could be of service...

...Neighbor of the Beast would be a bother...the Beast gets your mail...you have to borrow a cup of sugar from the beast....the beast comes over and tells you to keep it down...The beast dumps his leaves on your lawn...

    Oh, right....

Banning religion...Seems to me that with so many religiously tied gov'ts (Iran, Nepal, Italy) and so many secular ones with a massive popular support of religion (United States, Mexico, Brazil), such a proposal would be DOA. Only Commie nations would really back this, and China, Cuba and North Korea do not really trump anyone else.
