I saw this while browsing through some newsgroups.

I used to like his show on PBS when it was on. I bought a few of his cookbooks and have (successfully) made a dish or two from them.

It's a shame his career had to end the way it did. Oh well......

I liked him too until his other side was revealed.

He abused men? Like how did he do that? It didn't give much details in this report. If it's true, then he's a jerk. If not, all sorts of celebs get sued all the time on account that celebs have money.

Thanks, El Kabong. The article was interesting.

I used to enjoy his show, too. I didn't realize that he had never been formally charged in those incidents in 1997.

I think, IIRC, that the "abuse" was a bit of a media beat-up. The version I heard was that all parties were adult and consenting. (I could be wrong...)

As for the show, we had it here on Lifestyle for a while; I tended to find it incredibly boring.

As far as US based cooking shows go, I like Charlie Trotter's the best.

Still, it's sad to see an icon go.

It wasn't men who accused him but several teenaged males ...three of whom received settlements from him. Because he wasn't formally charged doesn't mean it didn't happen, laws vary state to state and if the accusers refused to testify, then...

I feel no pity for molesters and would hardly consider someone of his ilk an icon.

    Neither do I

I ... would hardly consider someone of his ilk an icon.

Nor would I. If you read my post CAREFULLY, I wasn't aware that he WAS a molester. Your post has changed all that.

The issue discussed at length on Jump The Shark:

Hey Stephanus, sorry if I offended you in any way. Was stating my view, in rereading it I can see where it sounds judgemental of yours. Wasn't my intent, merely my reaction to the events described. Apologies.
