Simultaneous Super Bowl parties at the Great Centers of Apostadom (LA, Dallas, Seatlle, etc.), with frequent chitchat via phone, text and JWD, complete with smack talk and well wishes...

We in Seattle are honored to be part of the Great Centers of Apostadom. I was thinking I'd rather fly to Dallas though...

If not (we are taking the kids to Disneyworld in April) then we'll have to work with the other Seattle peeps to find someone with a big TV. Ours isn't big enough to represent Apostadom.

So our British brothers won't be left out, someone should hold a pre-game clinic where we explain how "real" football is played in America. Otherwise, you know, they just get confused.

From what I understand it's a bit like rugby but all the players wear helmets and loads of padding. Scoring consists of someone standing at one end of the pitch and waiting for someone to throw the ball to them. It's incredibly tedious so they have to have breaks every 10 minutes or so. In fact, most people seem to look forward to the commercials more than the actual game. It's impossible to watch when sober - but at least it doesn't last as long as baseball. Derek of the "not a Brit but I know a good sport when I see it" class.

    Derek:Aye, you're not far off.
It's like rugby but with lots of namby pamby padding and lots of rest stops. They even field two entire teams each side, one for Offense and one for Defense.
In their defense, I will say that the whole process takes about four hours for a match, so the spectators get their monies worth.

They don't tend to run with the ball too much, and they have an extra rule, that we don't have in Rugby, in that the "Quarterback" can hurl the ball forward as long as he's behind the line of scrimmage when he does it.

Anyhow, for everyone else, there are a pile of rules here:
    American Football
Rugby Football Union / League (because there are two main versions)
    Soccer Football

Given that soccer is the sport that uses the feet more than all other varieties, it tends to claim the title "football" in most places in the world, except the USA

    LOL

So its a good excuse to have a few beers then?

    Yes, let the brits in!

The Scots may be better at understanding...they have an NFL Europe team...

Now, for Badger's compare and contrast

    WHY SOCCER IS BETTER
    1. No timeouts, no pads, like you said
    2. No commericals selling you mutual funds ever 12 minutes
    3. The Clock Stops...a LOT...In american football
    4. Goal celebrations will always be cooler than TD celebrations
    5. Promotion and Relegation
    6. The bitterness of a shot off the post trumps a dropped pass

    WHY OUR FOOTBALL IS BETTER
    1. two things that made america great: Committee meetings followed but sudden violence
    2. Timeouts, yes...but that rest means that hits are that much harder.
    3. The Hail Mary beats the hell out of the Long Ball
    4. Helmets! Dallas' Blue Star, Oakland's Raider, Minnesota's Viking Horns...better than having "Vodafone" all over your jerseys...
    5. You have to wait four years between World Cups
    6. You also know definitely when the game ends

REASON FOR A DRAW BETWEEN THE TWO:
    1. The Interception...The Own Goal...both he most devestating plays in sports.

    Rachel:
    Why?
    Ya gonna burst my bubble?

    Badger:
I agree. THey are both great games. I love them both.
In fairness the touchdown celebrations can be pretty cool, too
But to balance it back, we have Vodaphone on our jerseys too - LOL.

What are the dates likely to be? I'll need to look at flights, and the sooner they're booked, the cheaper they are.
