do you know what really bothers me about this, apart from the masogonistic woman hating view of the WT? What really gets me is that so many people let these idiots tell them what to do.
I was aware even back in the 80's when I was quite young, that they were stepping way over the mark. My view was that if it was not banned in the bible then they had no right to arbitrarily come to a conclucsion that something was wrong (ironically the straw that broke the camels back for me was beards, but that is a different story). The last bit of the bible in Revelation comes to mind -
Rev Chap 22 vs 18
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
19 And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
They also seem to be going way beyond Acts 15:
28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements:
29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.
Now to my mind you either accept the bible or you don't. You cannot pick and choose the bits you are going to apply if you are going to live by the book, personally I reject the bible but that's my position and is not one that I am going to try and browbeat others into accepting - I don't need to because it is what I believe that counts. Now for the JW's I do not see how you can go way beyond what is stated in the scriptures and still claim to be following the "word of god".
