    To Jeff S:

Thank you too for your fair and yet candid addition to this thread. I realize that many who go there are devoted to either doing their part making God's name known or to the org and I understand they are just human.

But I fell into the category of most JWs who for so long looked to the Bethelites as having reached a spiritual plateau and were so dedicated to their faith that they unselfishly gave up the kind of life the rest of us had...homes, family etc.

We, I know, did not reach these conclusions on our own. We looked at Bethel through the "eyes" that they gave us to use. We let them draw this perfect picture for us, tell us it was real, and we believed it along with everything else we were told. Just as you say:

. The fact that they believe that God has put them in these positions of power greatly aggravates the situation of course....The most irritating thing is the propaganda that the organization puts out to make it appear as though they are better than any other religious organization on earth.

In reality, the religious organization run by the JWs is just like every other religious organization it does some good things and does some bad things.

If you would have said that to me even just 5 years ago I would have had the same reaction that my family would now if I was to tell them these things.....utter disbelief and say it isn't possible in this God-directed org. God would not allow it to go on.

I'm not bitter though now (well maybe sometimes) but I am so glad to know these things which are, for me, a reality check and they do sound so much more like the real truth. My sincere hope is that more and more JWs get their eyes opened to the real facts that "the organization hurts more people than it helps."

Thank you all for making more truth known to us.

    This question is for Maximus:

You made the comment about Harley Miller with his initial "S" on society correspondence. Is he also the one who went by the initials:
    "SDY:SSB" ?

I ask that because after a particular correspondence with the anonymous society I received a reply from this person with a tongue lashing with accusations for which there was no basis. Just curious.

    "SDY:SSB"

The first three letters refer to the specific individual on an individual Service Desk, the second to the "typist." The SS is a hangover from Service Stenographer A, then SSB, and so on.

If SSB actually typed it and Harley wrote it, it would have been
S:SSB based on this older system.

Check with JT, who may very well be able to "out" the scoundrel.
Then again, an overseer can DIRECT someone on the desk to write a harsh letter; mmmmm, 'make sure he is thoroughly readjusted in no uncertain terms.' I'm being nice.

In my view, the one who has the authority to "stamp" the letter is fully responsible for what is sent out, and if someone is merely following "orders," well we don't have to have road maps for that one.

I'm waiting for someone to post information on the changes, then I'll chime in.

    Thanks Maximus,

I had asked JT before, but I think he said that he had misplaced some of the data during a move.

I know a few who used to be in the service dept. We used to think that they could do no wrong. I guess we out here share the problem by trusting without questioning. Bestowing gifts etc even at the price of sacrifice.

Makes me think of Proverbs 29:21" If one is pampering one's servant from youth on, in his later life he will even become a thankless one."

THIS is the "later life" and we feel the results of those who should be "servants" and have become "thankless".

JT, you are giving the boyz 'n monitoring wet pants, now; for shame. They've had a very full day slobbering over the "positions" thread.

One of these days, it's gonna be

JT - this G-job thread is a pisser! Sophie! Her thing was, no matter what you were sick with, she would always make you gargle with warm salt water! That brought back memories. I was convinced that the system of "checking in" on you while you were sick didn't just ensure that you weren't faking it - it kinda made you NOT want to stay home when you're sick.

Did you know Alan Galina? I did a G-job with him, painting & polyurethaning the home of the guy who owned that liquor store in Brooklyn Heights (I think it was on Cranberry?).

    What memories...

It's good to see things from a different perspective.
I did have some contempt for guys who stayed for life.
I thought they didn't have the guts to
leave and get married and get a real job in the world
like the rest of us. Now that I'm older, I can have more
understanding for guys like Willy Walker - they're scared
to leave - it's like putting a bird in a cage - eventually
you can leave the cage door open, they're too scared to
    leave it.

But I can see how you would feel, with the Amos n' Andy
routine. You can tell people about Bethel all day, but
unless you've been there, they'll never understand what
    a strange place it is.

Phone taps, nothing! How about room searches?

it's not like there was a "fourth amendment" in Bethel or
    anything.
If your best buddy loses his copy of Penthouse somewhere
in his room and can't find it .....

Your response is "I don't know you, man!"

Remember bro's hangin' small copies of porn in vent shafts
in the 124 bathroom? - just keepin' it handy, in a way that
can't be traced back to its owner.
