Try looking up Schrodingers multi world view of quantum mechanics, and although it is just a theory, you will see it is a theory which explains the famous "dual split" light experiment, whereby particles act differently when they are being observed. The theory predicts there are an infinate number of universes, one with each outcome. Makes interesting reading anyhow.

    ball,

So in the case of the cat in the box - the cat is both dead and alive until the box is opened and we see what universe we're in by the outcome?

Is that the gist of that theory?

If God looks into the future and says to his prophet X that so-and-so will do something (like die on a cross or conquer the King of the North) wouldn't the fact that such a thing is proclaimed alter the contingencies leading to an altered situation? Or does God take this into account? If so, then everything in the universe, including God, is absolutely determined and free will is a pathetic joke.

Free will is explained by some this way. " God gives us free will, but he knows the decisions will we take before it happens. It's still free will, god simply knows beforehand as to what we will choose."

Even that idea doesn't work. That's like us humans "knowing" beforehand, of a disaster that will happen......and not interveining BEFORE it does. We just let it happen, even though we know it will fail. I think a true god would be a bit smarter than that.

    Bradley:
You are good at jumping at the form of philosophy that suits your predisposition, and discarding all others.

Let me ask you a question...

Since even basic physics requires the ability to measure between two points, to calculate time, how do suppose you measure time before the "Big Bang"?

    little toe,

there are alternative theories that avoid the big bang as beginning of time and space.

Two points before the big bang? They could not have existed, neither in space nor in time.

This is all theoretical of course, but as you trace back in time towards the big bang, both space and time collapse into a singularity.

Bradley believes in the "Big Bang", though. That's his flavour of philosophy.

    LOL @ Gumby.

We haven't even got started on Astral Projection and the power of the mind to bend space/time, yet...

It could be like the Cassandra Complex where even though you know the future you're powerless to prevent it.
