With the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists moving its iconic Doomsday Clock up 2 minutes on 23.01.2015 (which means we are just three minutes closer to midnight in comparison to 17 minutes to midnight in 1991), and rapturewatch.net/timelines.htm predicting the end of the world as early as 2017, subject of “LAST DAYS” is getting heated up again.

Next time you have a Witness boasts about the uniqueness of Biblical prophecies—especially about “Last Days”, you can point the following photographic description of our times found in Srimad Bhagavatam, one of the ancient scriptures written even before the Bible:

    1)      Religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, duration of life, physical strength and memory will all diminish day by day because of the powerful influence of the age of Kali (age of unrigteousness).—12.2.1

    2)      In Kali Yuga (Last Days), wealth alone will be considered the sign of a man’s worth. And Law and Justice will be applied only on the basis of one’s power.—12.2.2

    3)      Men and women will live together merely because of superficial attraction, and success in business will depend on deceit. Womanliness and manliness will be judged according to one’s expertise in sex, and a man will be known as a brahmana just by his wearing a thread (rather than his spiritual behavior).—12.2.3 & 4

    4)      Marriage will be arranged simply by verbal agreement.—12.2.5

    5)      Filling the belly will become the goal of life, and one who is audacious will be accepted as truthful. The principles of religion will be observed only for the sake of reputation—12.2.6

    6)      As the earth will become crowded with a corrupt population, whoever among any of their social classes shows himself to be the strongest will gain political power—12.2.7

    7)      People will suffer greatly by extreme climates, famine, drought and also by excessive taxes, conflicts, severe anxiety.—12.2.9 & 10

    8)      Sons and daughters will no longer protect their elderly parents—12.3.42

    9)      In Kali Yuga men will develop hatred for each other even for a few coins. Giving up all friendly relations, they will be ready to lose their own lives and kill even their own relatives—12.3.41

    10)  Uncultured men will accept charity on behalf of the Lord and will earn their livelihood by making a show of austerity and wearing a mendicant’s dress. Those who know nothing about religion will mount a high seat and presume to speak on religious principles—12.3.38

    11)  Employees—employer relationship will be based on purely on monetary terms—one will abandon the other if there is no monetary benefit no matter how good the character of the victim is.—12.3.36

    12)  Cities will be dominated by thieves. Scriptures will be contaminated by speculative interpretations of atheists. Political leaders will virtually consume the citizens, and the so-called priests and intellectuals will be devotees of their bellies and genitals—12.3.32

Srimad Bhagavatam could not have been more wrong.

By every possible measure we live in the most peaceful time in all of human history. Life expectancy and health into old age has never been greater. Crime in Western Europe is at the lowest lever ever. Respect for human rights - women, children, homosexuals, even animals has never been stronger.

Your OP is a testimony to the stupidity of Eastern religion.

    Cofty,

    1) Ask the President of the sole Super Power--in how much fear he lives, or any world ruler for that matter?

    2) Bopal Industrial Gas leak tragedy killed thousands of people—families of victims got a favorable verdict from the court only after 25 years (for compensation)!

Where is the respect for victims, forget about the respect for human rights!!!

I can give you 1000s of examples like these!

    Huh?

"Photographic" description? From "ancient scriptures written even before the Bible"?

    Seriously?

This shows that the JW's bullsxxt is not unique as there are other "inspired" writings containing predictions that can be perceived as accurate by predisposed believers - cult followers. Many of Nostradamus' predictions were accurate at some point in history...Even a shot in the dark has a chance to hit its target...the more you shoot the more chances you have.

If you have studied with the witnesses, specially one book where they attempt to explain a lot of science (can't remember its name). In that book, I remember they actually question wether this writings were original to the ancient civilization that wrote them, or their own explanation of the things they saw and witnessed among the people of God. They then proceed to question the accuracy of carbon dating, so to put in question wether some of this writings are older or younger than the bible writings.

Neither of those things was predicted. What is your point?

Whether these predictions are an accurate picture of our times or not, is hardly the point.

The interesting comparison is between this writing and 2 Peter chapt. 3 . The similarities are clear.

It tells me that mankind has commonly foretold a "last days" marked by social upheaval and lowering personal standards. I don't believe that time to be now.....

Yes. There is even a fable written about this phenomena.

Chicken Little was on her way through the woods to her grandmother’s when something fell on her head. She picked herself up and shrieked, “The sky is falling!” Then she gathered her skirts and ran off in all directions. “Help! The sky is falling!” she cried. “Help! Help! The sky is falling!”

Srimad Bhagavatam, one of the ancient scriptures written even before the Bible

    When, exactly, was it written?
