For anyone wanting to meetup for lunch today, we're going to meet at Tiggis, which is on the top floor of the Orient part of the Trafford Centre, at 12:00-12:30

Probably going for a Chinese but we'll see what everyone fancies when we're there.

I feel fine ... no headache.

So sorry I couldn't be there, everyone! As you know, my back has been horribly painful over the past 2 days, so I even missed my spring equinox last night aswell. Plus, my car is written off - I wasn't in it, it was vandalised. So no transport either....

For others reading this thread: I just phoned littletoe and spoke to everyone at the Sunday lunch bash they're having....sounds like they're all having a great time. They're taking lots of photos to post on the board...

Oh and here's some inside information....Simon just told me he was the worst of the lot of them at the beerfest ha ha....

I found out a bit more information about Oldham!

The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else

    • If you get the bus often enough you'll meet some of the funniest people in the world. There's some right nutters knocking about, especially on the 409 because they all seem to live on that route. Watch out for the woman that sits and drinks Special Brew telling anyone who'll listen about her baby that got taken into care. Yes, Oldham really is that classy.
    • Sir Winston Churchill once claimed that his father's mistress was from Oldham. He said of her that "She was a friendly Northern woman of poor breeding" and that she was "grateful to my father for taking her from the mills" It is not known exactly how close these two became.
    • Oldham is home of the Tubular Bandage, also at one point there were more cotton spinning machines in Oldham than in the rest of the world put together.
    • Oldham was also once famous for its hats. In fact, the distinctive hat of one "Indiana Jones" comes from Oldham!
    • People from Oldham are known as "yonners". This dates back centuries, when some poncey Southener came, for some reason, to inspect the town. He'd ask "where's Oldham, my good man?", and the locals would point to a smudge in the distance, and say "yonner". When he finally arrived, the confused chap asked his friend what on Earth these people were saying, and why Yonner wasn't on any map. It was explained to him the locals were saying "yonder", but the poor fellows delicate ear just couldn't comprehend.

    • Oldham is a great place to come FROM; the people are great, it's one of the few places around where people will strike up a conversation in a public convenience, but it's run-down, scruffy and rough as hell. On a bad day it looks like Beirut without the sunshine. The really best thing used to be the Bath Hotel on Union Street until they 'did it up'; now it's just another carpets on the floor, walls, tables & ceilings dump.
