To have a child's best interests at heart means a parent has to be willing to appear the fool in front of other adults. As soon as a parent betrays that they care more about OTHER'S opinions than doing the right thing, the jig is up. Besides the physical assault, gespro, you experienced a serious betrayal of trust.
I kept in mind, always, that I was raising a new generation. What I did every day mattered far beyond any temporary embarrassment.
Rage, rage against the injustice! Giving voice to the horror is an awesome step.
