is Elvis the King or what! i spent yesterday evening listening to a double Elvis album i got yesterday, 25+ tracks per CD!!! it has alllllllllll the tunes I grew up listening to as LP's, (my mom's LP's i might add) and i gotta say, memories, reminded me of my whole life, what awesome music.

now i know that nobody can compete with Elvis, but i thought i would ask for a show of hands all the same.

Depends on what he is the King of. All music? No. I would have to say the earlier pioneers before him like Louis Armstrong and such. Of all Rock and Roll? Perhaps, or as Valis said... semi-king.

I'm not sure I'd call him the King, but I do like some of his music. I especially like Jailhouse Rock. I grew up in and around Memphis. Every year on his birthday and his death day, a large number of his worshippers make a pilgrimage to Memphis and Graceland. He's brings lots of dollars to Memphis as a dead man.

Elvis and the Beatles have made a huge contribution to music - yes I would give the title to ELVIS

Three kings where I came from:

Elvis = King of Rock n Roll

Richard Petty = King of Stock Car Racing

    Budweiser = King of Beers

When you are in an Elvis mood ... no one comes close.

Mind you, Bob Dylan is pretty good. Who's better? Open verdict ...

As DonMcLean sang, in American Pie:

But that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the King and Queen

    ...

Oh, and while the King was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown

    The courtroom was adjourned,
    No verdict was returned.

Yeah, I vote for him as The King. I loved a lot of Elvis' music. However, I cannot find a decent CD compilation that really does it for me. Burnin' Love is probably my favorite. Some others are:

    You're Right, I'm Left, She's gone
    Mystery Train
    His Latest Flame
Treat Me Nice (the version from the Jailhouse Rock movie)
    Tryin' To Get To You
    Stuck On You

    Simon,

That's an awesome tune. One can wonder where music would have gone if Buddy Holly hadn't died. My vote for kings go to the four lads from Liverpool:

The halftime air was sweet perfume,

The sargeants played a marching tune,

We all got up to dance,

But we never got the chance...

I'd say Elvis is the King of Rock'n'Roll - what a voice!

BTW, didja know Elvis is still alive?

... in each and every one of our hearts.

Oh, I have to plug my all-time fav rocker (singer, musician and songwriter and therefore, in a different genre from E, who was a performer only) the Grandaddy of Grunge - Neil Young.

    ROCK ON!
