    The WT engages in history revisionism when insisting the world changed overnight in 1914. In fact the European power struggles that came to a head were centuries old. Millions of lives had been lost in the wars of the 19th century, with the world a powder keg the years prior to the assassination of Franz Ferdinand in June 1914 which is often said, albeit rather arbitrarily, as the start of the war that escalated over the next 4 years into the Great War. Take a look at these two pages and ask if the WT's interpretation of history seems accurate to you.

    Yes, and it wasn't till the early 1930s that they taught the new date for Christ's parousia was 1914. Until then you couldn't be a consecrated Christian if you did not believe Christ's advent did not occur in 1874.

    So Jesus gets put on the throne of his heavenly kingdom in 1914, 1,881 years after his death and resurrection. Then, in 1919 he allegedly comes to examine his "slaves" to see who is faithful and who is wicked only to find Rutherford's Watchtower be faithful. I wonder what King Jesus was doing for the five years in between 1914 and 1919?

    Life was different after the Great War, (Which is how the JW's manage to pedal the alleged significance of 1914 in Europe, which has a much better grasp of their own history than Americans do) but I agree that tensions had been at a boiling point for decades.

    Even today, a German historian would likely disagree with this statement:

    "While one camp, joining Great Britain, France, and Russia (Triple Entente) strove to preserve the fragile balance between the European great powers, the second camp formed around German Empire, Austria-Hungary, and Italy (Central Powers) was challenging it."

    (Especially the part about Italy)

    What criteria did Jebus use to select the JW's in 1919?

    Proclaimers book says it was not attitude as many groups were very zealous back then.

    It was doctrine they say...except comparing what was taught in 1919 and what is taught now there is a vast difference.

    The whole 1914/1919 falls down on so many levels.

    nswtg: not so much, , wt still teaches: " [8] millions now living (that means you) will never die" they dropped the " the world has ended" . because, as Carl Sagan said about them: "The world ended, but nobody noticed."

    AND;

    Most JW's don't realize that up until after Rutherfords death in 1942, Christ's invisible parousia did NOT occur until 1914, that switch happened 2 years after the Judge's death in 1944.

    The Borg pulled a fast one. Which JW's are NOT aware of.

    1914 WAS originally deemed the 'end of trouble' NOT the beginning.

    Then another switcharoo, bait and switch in 1944, to understand the'invisiible'' presence of Christ to 1914 from the original date of 1874. Something most JW's are NOT aware of. Two years after Rutherfords death (1942) new understanding in 1944.

    What the Watch Tower Society said about 1914 before the war is indeed very different to what they say now. For more information see here and here.
