I was disfellowshipped for having a worldly boyfriend ... is there a double standard here?

You don't get DF'd for what you do -- but rather for how repentant you are or aren't.

Jehovah whispers into the elders ears' whether or not you are repentant.

That's right! When the hearing is over, before the decision is made, the elders tell you to please leave the room and close the door behind you.

Then JEHOVAH tells them whether you're worthy of association or should be treated like a dog, in an answer to their prayer for guidance.

That's how they can judge hearts, and always get it right!

Apparently, Estee -- you didn't cry and beg for mercy enough. So Jehovah told the elders to can you.

The current punishment for dating outside the religion is "marking" (w99 7/15 29), which means that you still have to go to meetings and out in service, but you're not allowed to go to Witness social gatherings.

It sounds like this guy is just a marginal Witness. Good for him.

I think he is on his way out!

I asked him what his congregations reaction was to the WBTS being a member of the UN, he was startled and said there was no way this was true, he was adament about looking it up on the net and kept asking me where to find out. So I told him, YEAH!!!

The other funny thing was another JW at work found out he was dating a wordly girl and approached him and mentioned to him that this was wrong.

This guy is the only JW in his family. That means the WTBTS has less control over him. I bet he can get away with lots of stuff.

After all isn't it often family members that turns people in to the elders? And isn't it family that people are afraid to loose that makes the whole df thing so scary? No JW family, no worries!

In the last year I heard talks still about obeying in the "little things' and staying single rather than breaking down and marrying / dating in the world was one of the examples given. He said that althought it is not a punishable act, it is still disobedience and read the scriptures of course on association, marrying only in the lord, etc etc..

    Its still taboo..

Sounds to me like this coworker has not much heart left for being in..

I'm not too sure we had marking back in the 60's. I had lots of social things with JWs anyway. We just dated. Never had date cops back then. I was the sound boy at meetings. Not that that was a prestige job. I was not looking to climb the corporation ladder anyway. GaryB

my g/f is marked and on private-reproof because of me, so i told her a peice of my mind about it. its just messed up that loyalty towards an organization comes before happiness and love....stupid corproations

btw, thats a good point to bring across to any witness is that the love and happiness towards one another will fade and die when they become a jehovah's witness. everyone's miserable inside and doesn't know what being happy is really about because they are told how to be happy.

I agree with Euph on that. You have to have "done something" with the girlfriend/boyfriend that can be interpreted as 'porneia' to be DF'd. Elders/MS/pioneers will lose their "privileges" as well. Since no names are given in the marking talk, supposedly only people who know of the situation will mark; the KH gossip mill will correct that so that everyone will know.

Ditto what Euph and Blondie say. Sounds like he's unlikely to be holding any 'privileges' for him to lose. Apart from answering. ugg!
