    Is this a...?
    1. "congregation picnic"
    2. "congregation gathering"
    3. "spontaneous gathering of JWs”

    Awake! magazine 1983 (g83 10/22 27)

"At a picnic of members of our congregation, one brought a fiddle, another a guitar, and so on."

However, in the new elders' manual it seems that there are legal concerns:
“SHEPHERD THE FLOCK OF GOD” (2019)
    Chap.29 | Legal Matters: 8.Social Events

The congregation does not organize or sponsor social events. Individuals who host social events bear personal responsibility for what occurs at the event. Such individuals should not state or imply that they are acting on behalf of the congregation. They should not use terms such as “congregation picnic” or “congregation gathering.”

    What are your thoughts?

Do whatever we tell you but remember that you volunteered so whatever happens is your responsibility and not ours...

As I understand it, that's the position WT lawyers took in the Candace Conti case.

My God, the micro managing is incredible!

Wait til WT throws the Elders under the bus.

It is a good example of how the cult wants to reinforce a kind of robotic conformity and total dependence on the GB.

This method of control is at great odds with conventional religious practice where the believer tries to imitate Christ, Buddha or some prophet, and uses their own conscience and common sense. But in JW land it's all rules and regulations, you are not allowed to think for yourself.

Being a JW is becoming like living in an open prison-- imagine the JW 'paradise' run on the same lines!

The congregation picnic, going the way of the book study group.

    ...and for the same reason.

    Gas prices 😂

Sounds like it is simply a concern about legal liability for anything that goes wrong. I don't think they are saying don't have picnics just don't advertise them as congregation events. They don't want to be sued if everybody goes down with salmonella.

If they're worried about litigation it begs the question who or what is the congregation? Is it the body of elders, legally?

Cofty, Salmonella or that pedo masquerading as an elder, sneaking off for a walk in the woods.

    ...with someone's child.

They're worried about being liable alright.
