    CONGRATULATIONS, SARGON!

My faves are: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Vince Vance & The Valiants, everything from "Charlie Brown Christmas," Madonna doing "Santa Baby" (but I like Eartha Kitt's version too), "Winter Wonderland," "Silent Night" by Enya, "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree," "Jingle Bell Rock" -- oh, well, I think I like everything!!!

Thanks everyone, I'm gonna be downloading some of these later, I couldnt remember the songs so its good to hear your faves.

There was a real soulful r&b version of "Do you hear what I hear" that I really liked when I was a JW, it came out about 1984 but I cant remember the who sang it, very good female vocalist and groovy music but I've never been able to trace who sang it.

    A Christmas Carol

    by Tom Lehrer

Christmas time is here, by golly,
    Disapproval would be folly.
Deck the halls with hunks of holly,
Fill the cup and don't say when.

Kill the turkeys, ducks and chickens,
Mix the punch, drag out the Dickens.
    Even though the prospect sickens,
    Brother, here we go again.

On Christmas Day you can't get sore,
Your fellow man you must adore.
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three hundred and sixty-four.

    Relations, sparing no expense,
'll Send some useless old utensil,
Or a matching pen and pencil.
("Just the thing I need, how nice!")

It doesn't matter how sincere it is,
Nor how heart felt the spirit,
    Sentiment will not endear it,
    What's important is the price.

    Hark, the Herald Tribune sings,
    Advertising wondrous things.
    God rest ye merry merchants,
May ye make the Yuletide pay.
Angels we have heard on high,
Tell us to go out and buy!

So, let the raucous sleighbells jingle,
Hail our dear old friend Kris Kringle,
Driving his reindeer across the sky.
Don't stand underneath when they fly by.

    Sincerly,

    District Overbeer

Josh Groban's version of "Oh Holy Night" is fantastic--it's my favorite classic Christmas song, and his version is the very best recording, in my opinion.

As far as more 'contemporary' tunes, the Eagles' version of "Please come home for Christmas" is hard to beat.

I love the Carpenter's "Merry Christmas Darling".

New Songs' "The Christmas Shoes" is schmaltzy and sentimental, and damn near makes me weep every time.

There are a few songs, however, that I loathe. Wham's "Last Christmas" is high on the list. And when the heck did "My Favorite Things" become a Christmas standard? If I hear Barbara Streisand's downright creepy version of that one more time, I'm going to take a hostage!

Gosh Brummie, I grew up learning to loathe Christmas songs and then I worked in a mall for 8 years and was constantly inundated with them for 2 months every year. I think the only one I really like, have to agree with Sargon here (Congrats btw) is "Little Drummer Boy" with David Bowie and Bing Crosby. I guess it was just such a strange duo but, it worked so well.

    Have fun!
