Think about this! All the signs of the last days from Matt.24. That jw's point to,  happened in the 1st half of the last century!

And now it's 2018 and we are still here. That's like saying back in 1930 the events of the civil war show we are in the last days! It has now been that long!

Actually, all the signs of the last days Jesus spoke about in Matthew 24 were fulfilled in the first century, including the tribulation.

Yes, as I've posted elsewhere, we are well into the 2nd century of the "last days", per JW doctrine.

Did Jesus mean "last days" or "last centuries"?

Yes, the very notion that a book written by Iron Age men could possibly have anything to do with our day is preposterous!

Those "signs" are not signs. All of those elements have always being present since humanity as we know it started. Besides, predicting that things are going to be bad for some people is like predicting that 1 plus 1 is going to equal 2.

Many of the "signs" of world problems have stared to actually get better , as documented in JWFACTS.

    http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/last-days.php

For example , the percentage of undernourished people has dropped from 15% in 2000 to just over 10% last year ( despite a rise in the worlds population. ) War deaths are also down. Earthquake activity hasn't really changed over the millenniums, despite the Societies crude attempts to pretend that it has. Many diseases that used to kill millions ( such as smallpox ) have been eradicated or have been greatly diminished.

Yes, interesting stuff every thinking JW should consider.

Russell (and Rutherford 'til the late 20's) taught that 1799 marked the beginning of the "last days". That's very telling because every generation seems to "discern" the fulfillment of end-time prophecies.

JWfacts has (a link to) an impressive list of failed doomsday predictions since the 2nd century: www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/apocalyptic-end-of-world-predictions.php

A few years back, ex-president Obama was very positive about our time and he highlighted positive global developments regarding education, poverty, war, famine, child mortality etc. Needless to say that his speech would be branded as demonic propaganda by indoctrinated JW's. They, and nobody else! have the truth.

    All true.

Every time I hear an End-Timer commenting on how we're living in the "worst era in human history", I simply ask them, "Well, when would you prefer to live? The Old West? The Middle Ages? The Ancient Roman Empire?"

The deer-in-the-headlights response never gets old. :smirk:

It all seemed to be coming to a head in the last third of the twentieth century didn't it?

We had had WW1 and WW2. Nuclear bombs and nuclear missiles to put them on by the 1950's. Cuban Missile crisis in 1962.

Run up to 1975 we had USSR Bloc and NATO squaring off, Kennedy assassination, Vietnam, (in the UK we had strikes, power cuts, short week working).

Then after the 1975 debacle we still had "the generation" dream running at full steam to keep us on message. More Superpower tension, rise of China, Falklands war, Russians in Afghanistan - but suddenly in 1990 it all came to a shuddering halt - fall of the Iron Curtain - united and benign Germany.

Early 1990's - Ooh! might this be the shout of peace and security? The generation are in their 80's and 90's now - gotta happen soon!

Then our feet were cut from under us - Generation change! Run out of time!

By 2000 it was all over bar the realisation.

    We had been had.
