I have a family member who had been DF'ed for 15 years or so...recently they reinstated as a JW. When I asked what motivated them to make that decision, the response was to be able to see family and old friends. They insisted that things were different now. The organization is all about love for one another, and that the judgmental elders have been removed or no longer in their positions. They claim that you can freely Zoom meetings and just do letter writing to get in your service time. Has anyone experienced that? I am skeptical that the leopard has changed his spots...

Well the old school hard-nose elders are either dead to too old to care. The newer younger elders are not the . zealots their predecessors were. Generally speaking. There have been quite a few come back. Because all they had to do was turn in the zoom meeting and they get their family back

Nothing, and I mean nothing can make me return to this heartless, self righteous, self serving Organization..

Love your handle TYA. Alvin Lee was an absolute beast on guitar. I used to smoke some Ganga and listen to Ten Years After back in the ‘70s.

Has WT changed? Their own Bible answers that question.

    (Jeremiah 13:23) . . .Can a Cushʹite change his skin, or a leopard its spots?. . .

The organization has changed drastically in the last few years... but NOT because of love. It seems to actually be more conniving, evil, and deceptive now than it was before. It changed because it had to. It is a dying cult, and it changed to try to prolong its life - to try to attract new members and retain current members.

It had to become far less analytical and doctrinal and to dumb down its literature because the internet exposed flaws in its doctrine. It can no longer be analytical and doctrinal because if it tries to, it will get shredded to pieces on the internet and exposed. It has to play it safe now. A few years ago, there was suspicion on this site that the organization had hired a PR firm to help it change its image. It produced a website, videos, & music (pop-like music). It began to have broadcast programs like those of televangelist religions it used to ridicule.

When I was a JW, I worked my ass off and slaved in misery for the organization. I don't think JWs do that anymore. The whole realm of JWdom is softer now. For example, back in my days as a JW, the organization and individual JWs were bold. Now, JWs run from questions and challenges and are cowardly.

So, the religion is still a harmful, deceptive cult. What some perceive to be its becoming more loving is actually a weakening.

P.S. They started to do Zoom meetings due to the virus, but, the organization is trying to get JWs to meet back in person now. And, concerning getting time in the ministry, it does seem that it's easier for JWs now. The pandemic changed that. I don't think JWs can or will ever go back to being the way they were in the ministry in the old days. The ministry was weakening even before the pandemic. That's because JWs face more obstacles in the ministry as time progresses. The internet has exposed the failed predictions, crazy past, looney teachings, corruption, etc. People are less tolerant of them, they have cameras everywhere, etc.

    TENYEARSAFTER:

I have two JW acquaintances I speak to from time to time who try in vain to entice me back into the religion. They say the religion is ‘different’ now and more ‘loving’. I’m not fooled and no longer interested anyway. I’m done with all that.

    MAGNUM:

That’s a very good post and an accurate description of what the JW religion has turned into.

One Elder a while ago tried to sell the religion back to me, he knew I had always been a keen student of the Bible, so he said the religion had changed, well, being on here, I knew that ! but he added "We now use the Bible much more than when you left" Ha Ha Ha.

They may or may not quote more cherry picked verses, but of course they still twist Scripture, and don't of course ever admit that the Bible cannot be taken literally, is not the word of god, and is about 95% pure Fiction.

I’m a PIMO elder and I can confirm the Borg have changed immensely of late

i also worked my ass off pioneering getting 90hrs month, all the pioneers have had no hour requirements for a few years now and talk is a gentle brining it back in, even if they do most pioneers lie and don’t get anywhere near that amount of hours.

going back to door to door will be gentle as well, maybe 15 mins walking round knocking a door or two then coffee or nice walk in the park

its just a social meet up for most a chance to chat

this is what Zoom was all about really hardly any letters were written and now almost none, I know this because nobody is asking for more territory

its much easier being being in the cong these days, I often wonder how many are like me pimo but staying in for the socialising

im also very very interested to see what happens over the next few years as the current GB get older and start dying off

in the past we hardly knew if a GB me ever died but now we see them all every month and it’s really in your face

what will happen when the numbers slowly go down will they actually get new younger members? If they do it will be very discouraging for those who thought this was the last few to die off

My Maths teacher is Colin Hodgkinson's wife. He played with TYA not so long ago. He used to play in a jazzy band called Back Door.
