Merger aftermath

A couple of months ago, I reported on my congregation being disolved and merged with another.

On Sept 1, Cong B merged with Cong A using the same Hall, thereafter using Cong A's meeting times. Also nearby Cong C moved into the Hall using Cong B's meeting times and Cong C's KH is being put up for sale.

I've since been to both Sunday meetings and both midweek meetings. At all, the parking lot is totally full, cars have to park around the corner and on the street. The auditorium is full and now more are using both library and school rooms.

Now, there is no potential for growth. If there are 150 attending each now, that is 300 total; it would be better to have them make 3 congregation of 100. But no. Now, there is less opportunity for people to comment at each meeting with all those people there.

That is happening all over. Just to sell building, the congregations will suffer.

So, this seems to be evidence that it really is about the money and not concern for the rank and file or growth in "the field" or local logistics.

Are you disappointed that they aren't doing better?

Rattigan - "Just to sell building, the congregations will suffer."

The Org is primarily concerned with its own survival, not the potential suffering of individual congregations.

And at the moment, said survival requires money more than it does members... and by all indications, will this will continue for the foreseeable future.

The WTS policy in the past was to keep a congregation numbers no more than 100, supposedly not to put a burden on the elders regarding shepherding. But now it seems money rules, not spiritual health (if it ever did).

It should help some jws fall through the cracks more easily.

Oh, we are splitting at the seams, we had better pass the hat among the brothers and build a new hall to take up the great increase.

Merged congregations now having twice the elders, then fighting for dominance, now having even more competitors, only half the meeting platform parts. Assertive Elder's wives strutting out ( being sick to go to the can) whenever an alpha male competitor has the podium.

The meeting attendance will decline. Large congregations make fading so much easier.
