Simon got it right , they had the date already (1914) via the calculations made by Pyramidology.
The WTS leaders liked to spin up sensationalized ideas, then put them into writing toward their publications.
These men were really commercialized fraudsters / religious charlatans.
When they changed it from 606 to 607 when they realized there was no 0 year it shows they had the answer as Simon says and had to make it work to the answer.
The reality is they changed something supposedly set in history (their 606 BCE) to 607 where they should have changed 1914 given no zero year...but they didn't...because they had the answer and have to make the prophecy fit.
From a theological standpoint this calculation of creating 1914 was an apostate unscriptural act for it was Jesus himself that admonished his true followers of making up a set time/date upon gods own sacred time.
It was something to sell and aid in the proliferation of literature but now ironically the WTS is struggling to cope with this date which they made up inherently on their own.
