You know, shamus, some people don't think that small children suffer from depression.. but sometimes they do and it's sad that some parents refuse to recognize it.

Very true. I covered mine up well. My teacher was concerned about me, but did nothing. She wasn't sure... I guess the main thing to remember is if you're not sure, tell the parents!

You also, told of how when you went of medication that the depression lifted.. Maybe it was from a chemical imbalance that needed medication rather than the temporary reliefs of alcohol. I don't know, I am no doctor.

    Absolutley!

I was having a talk with someone today and it seems somewhat apparent that the Watchtower has a way of sucking in a depressed soul.. because of the carrot they dangle in front of ones eyes.. The new paradise, and all oppression to be gone..

Again, you are right! That was what got me into the religion. Drugs and alcohol was not doing it.... so religion took over! I freely admit that I was weak, weak, weak!

SpecialK, I hope that you are able to get your feelings out soon. It has helped me tremendously, this thread! I feel better, and it would do you good to revisit your past, no matter how difficult, and confront it. Believe me, it's worth it.

I agree with all your comments Shamus except for the part where you say you were ..

    weak, weak, weak.

You are not weak, Shamus... You are just Human. You are just human.

The J.W. brainwashing dooped a lot of us here. I'm sure that there are alot here who were not depressed when they entered the J.W. religion to chase the ever elusive carrot.

My observance, over the years, is that alot of males who are "control freaks" came into the J.W. organization.. and I'm not bashing men. I love men, in general ,and am glad they are here on the planet with us females.

When I have read over the first couple of months of some of the elders who have came and interrogated ones like Winston on this forum.. and there were others who posted similar stories.. what is that type of interrogation or intimitation tactics.. nothing but trying to control someone. Like their trying to Crack you or something.. Inhumane treatment of fellow humans. It was good you could make some geographical moves in your life story..I bet that was helpful.

Hold your head up high, Shamus... because I think you know that there will be many who are Jehovah's Witnesses who will never see the "cultism" of the borg. You just can't reach them. It's like a film over their eyes. It is so sad. We are the lucky ones, our self awareness broke through the scum...

Luckily I escaped with my husband and our young kids in tow. Lost alot of family of origin though.

    thanks for your encouragement, Shamus..

funny strange.. that I write here to encourage you on your topic, and then you show what kind of guy you are by also encouraging me. thanks to a good guy,

    sincerely

    Thank god, Special K!

Thanks back to you for encouraging me!

When Isay that I was "weak",,,, I was weak from depression, looking for a way out. I was weak. You need to be weak in order to give in to their rhetoric!

Your post enriched the board, Shamus. Honest words spoken from the heart - it rings of Truth (forgive me. I am on a campaign to take that word back from the WTS).

I understand now Shamus.. about the weak thing.

That is sooo true. Someone in a depression would be in a weakened state.

    Hi Shamus,

    thx for sharing your story.

The do more crap is the same exact MO that the eldes spewed to my wife who is going through depression. nothing like telling someone who feels like $hit that they are not doing enough

    A$$holes.

The only thing i have to say that i am a bit dissappointed when you said that you were going to swear in your post, and yet you didn't once drop a beloved F-bomb. You'll have to take a lesson from shotgun or seven006; these guys have their colorful adjectives down to a science.

I was so disgusted with him that I stood up and gave him the finger. Right up in front of everyone at the bar, in front of the whole crowd on the street, and gave him the royal bird. It was the only time that it felt good.

that must have felt great! i can't wait for my day too!

    Winston.

    Funny, ain't it...

There are people on this board who miss the organization, but got screwed out of it

There are people on this board who are still in, aren't sure they want to leave, but have real doubts (like me)

There are people on this board who left quickly, and don't look back

There are people on this board who found faith elsewhere

There are people on this board who lost any faith for good

There are people on this board who have some genuinely kind things to say about sincere witnesses

There are people on this board who left over a long and thought-out plan.

But they all felt the pressure, torment, lack of self-worth and frustration of an overall culture of control and exclusion.

    Thanks, Sham

    Courage

"Courage has roots. She sleeps on a futon on the floor and lives close to the ground.

Courage looks you straight in the eye. She is not impressed with powertrippers, and she knows first aid.

Courage is not afraid to weep and she not afraid to pray. Even when she is not sure who she is praying to. When courage walks, it is clear that she has made the journey from loneliness to solitude. The people told me she is stern were not lying; they just forgot to mention she is kind"
