Ever heard of NAMBLA? This is an organization that promotes man-boy love, with support groups, and magazines and books supporting the subject.

And the ACLU has gone to bat for these guys. Pro bono, backing their rights to this sick group.

    Well. . I predict a flame war. . .

For the most part I back the ACLU. I do not hate the organization because they happen to back one that I disagree with. They have done a lot of good as well.

I heard they were also offering free advise to the Viagra company....sorta pro-boner.

Actually, this is old news. The agreement by the ACLU to defend NAMBLA was made over 3 years ago. Please see the following article from the archives of the N.Y. Times:

    http://www.nytimes.com/library/national/090100aclu-nambla.html

The ACLU generally champions the constitutionality of freedom of speech, but in this case, they have crossed the line of decency and common sense. This one needs to be withdrawn. What those child rapists need, IMHO, is not freedom of speech, but long-term psychiatric care in facilities for the criminally insane.

Reasons why I LOVE the ACLU

I can believe in Evolution and express it:

When Tennessee's new anti-evolution law became effective in March 1925 the ACLU at once sought a test of the statute's attackon free speech and secured John T. Scopes, a young science teacher, as a plaintiff. Clarence Darrow, a member of the Union's National Committee and an agnostic, headed the ACLU's volunteer defense team. Scopes was convicted and fined $100. On appeal, the Tennessee Supreme Court upheld the statute but reversed the conviction.

I am a Japanese American and not worry:

Two and a half months after Pearl Harbor, 110,000 Japanese Americans, two-thirds of whom were citizens, were evacuated from their homes and relocated in a series of inland U.S. concentration camps. The episode was a national tragedy, rightfully called by the ACLU "the worst single whosale violation of civil rights of Americans citizens in our history." The strongest voices against evacuation and relocation came from ACLU affiliates on the West Coast.

I am African American - no more segregation:

On May 17, 1954, in Brown v. The Board of Education, the Supreme Court issued its historic decision that segregation in public schools violates the 14th Amendment. The ACLU joined the legal battle that resulted in the Court's decision.

I am a woman: my body is my body:

In Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the Supreme Court held that the constitutional right to privacy encompasses a pregnant woman's decision to bear a child or have an abortion. The ruling struck down state laws that had made the performance of an abortion a criminal act. The ACLU was and remains active in the courts to protect that right.

Yes..I might not agree with some of their stands, but they do much more good than bad.

I suppose there is good and bad in everything, I just happen to think these guys butt in where sometimes they don't belong.

They obviously are taking sides along the political party lines too. Here is an example. Gov Davis is about to get his ass kicked out of a job next month.

Back in November, when there was a vote for the Governor, when clearly Davis would win, the ACLU had no problem with the voting machines.

But now, a year later, when Davis is about to be ousted, oh my, we can't have these voting machines. The ACLU is flat out saying that minorities are too stupid to figure out a ballet voting system that was perfect last year, but now that Davis is about to be booted, they are trying to delay the voting system by saying that these voting machines will confuse the minorites. Oh come on!! Are they really concerned about the minorities? Or do they have a political agenda that does not belong in an organization like ACLU?

I am for equal treatment of American citizens, but many times this particular organization is just over the top.

I did not mean in any way shape or form to start a flame war or anything, but I have a hard time with any person or organization that would support and help a group that promotes sex between a man and a under age boy.

Yes..I might not agree with some of their stands, but they do much more good than bad.

That's like saying, "The dubs are OK, they give people more knowledge of the bible, we'll just overlook the pedophilia issue. The Aclu is just as bad or worse, they should know better. By the way, The government should bomb NAMBLA's headquarters
