Do You Think People Know By Now Who They Will Vote For As President?

i was listening to a radio broadcast today, and the DJ asked one of this co-hosts who he would vote for.

Now, this person danced around the issue and clearly was avoiding answering, but after some pressure finally admitted voting for Trump. To me this is really telling and it explains much of the poll numbers we see. There is a stigma around voting for Trump, which to me rings similar to the stigma around being an atheist.

Many atheists will try to soften their position in social settings by dancing around the issue, because they feel there is a stigma associated with it and they don't want to be perceived in a negative way, even if it's logical. Voting for Trump is on this same avenue. Many people know they will vote for him, but will keep it under wraps.

redvip2000, the problem the US is facing right now is that there is no external enemy. Well, we do have wars going on but they rarely hit the news and are not foremost in most people's minds. I'm thinking that there is an evolutionary survival trait amongst the great apes. If we can't find an external enemy, we'll fight amongst ourselves.

I would tend to disagree that "many people" are reluctant to voice their opinion about Trump. They seem pretty vocal to me. I'm an atheist and have no trouble saying so, although I don't try to poke it down people's throats. When I say I'm not a believer that usually shuts up the religious claptrap.

The JW org is a fundamentalist religion and was pretty darn conservative when I was with it, so it seems logical to me that exJWs are more likely to side with Trump. Same-same to me.

Tich, I am very used to the abrasive New York personality. I get it. I also get his approach, his instincts and his humor. He often talks and says things we might think but decide not to say. As a rule I don’t find him offensive. He has personality. I actually saw a comedy central program yesterday where they roasted him. They nailed him and he took it as well as I have seen celebrities get roasted. I think he is more real than other politicians and I believe that’s why he attracts so many people at his rallies. I have a friend of mine who is a diehard Democrat and he went to the rally just to see what was like and he said to me I’m never going to change my vote but I have to say he is very entertaining and I enjoyed going.

Drive by, I would be hesitant to say I like trump if I thought my business was going to be burnt down or vandalized. I would be hesitant to say I like Trump if I knew that putting a bumper sticker on my car would mean possibly getting it hit by a liberal who hates Trump. I would be hesitant to say I like trump if I wanted to put signs on my property but would be afraid that someone would destroy my place simply because of hallway like.

minimus, Oh, I live in redneck country. There's no chance Trump supporters here would give a shit how anyone thinks about their bumper stickers. In fact, they would hope you didn't like it.

I took a drive around the neighborhood a few days ago and actually saw four Biden signs amongst the myriads of Trump signs. Now that takes guts - here anyway.

Minimus you nailed it. My friend and I said this four years a go and even more today. Afraid to put a Trump sign up. Michigan.

As far as personality, I like his too. I once said to my Ex " you know he reminds me of the men that have owned the fine dining and country clubs I've worked in most of my life "

He said " that's because that's what he is a hotel fine dining restaurant owner " Light bulb moment.

Yep I get him. Yes the men I worked for sometimes would be a little crude but they treated me GREAT. The one that I loved the most was also like Trump the most.

Stayed good friends with him until his death a few months back even though I left the job 30 yrs ago. I know that Trump loves this country and has done more in 4 years then Biden did in 40.

I will not be threatened or blackmail to be in lockstep with the people that are burning down our country. TRUMP is my man !!!

I see more Trump signs than ever before. Biden, not so much.

Just like 4 years ago. In my travels then, I would literally see at least 10 Trump signs to 1 Hillary sign.

I live in a mostly "blue" state and can honestly say that in this election cycle, I rarely see a Joe Biden sign. I do however see plenty of Trump signs.

So, if I'm following this correctly....

People won't admit to planning to vote for Trump when contacted anonymously by a polling firm because of "fear" and "stigma", but they are perfectly happy to place a "Trump 2020" sign in their yard so that every person on their street, and the dozens or hundreds of cars passing by every day, know exactly where a Trump supporter lives?

I see braver people this time around putting a trump sticker on their car or sign at home. But I know a lot of Trump supporters who will not do any such thing because they don’t want to be picked on by the left. Two of my friends have had pollsters call them. They lied and the reasoning was why do I have to tell them who I’m voting for? Not my reasoning personally I would say who I would support but I guess there are some people out there who would rather give the pollsters wrong information
