    "....the first-century governing body settled the circumcision issue..."(bt chap. 13 p. 103)

    Galatians 2:1-6 show that it was the apostle Paul who was used to resolve the issue. Paul was directed by a revelationt to teach the older men in Jerusalem - not the other way around! (especially verses 2 & 6)

    "The disciple James...apparently presided [as chairman of the fictitious governing body] when the decision was made regarding circumcision." (w76 6/15 p. 378 par. 20)

    This will be the same "governing body" member/chairman who tried to corrupt the beliefs of a Christian congregation!!!

    (Acts 15:1) Now some men came down from Judea and began to teach the brothers: “Unless you get circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”

    (Galatians 1:7) ...there are certain ones who are causing YOU trouble and wanting to pervert the good news about the Christ.

    (Galatians 2:4) But that matter [circumcision] came up because of the false brothers brought in quietly, who slipped in to spy on the freedom we enjoy in union with Christ Jesus, so that they might completely enslave us;

    (Galatians 2:12) For before certain men from James arrived, . . .

    The Jews had trouble of letting go of the Mosaic law and the traditions although something better had arrived. Jesus had already told them that certain commandments were the most important: to love God and your neighbour as yourself. Now Paul told them of the superior atonement of Jesus and how they could receive it ☺️

    Faith vs works, Grace vs merit, Gift vs debt

    -In Christ alone Acts 4:10-12

    -by Grace alone Roman's 3:24

    -through faith alone Roman's 5:1

    -in His blood alone 1 Peter 1:18-19

    Paul and James lob insults at each other all through the NT.

    It's interesting though that it was James that took the lead in Acts 15 to conclude that the law was not applicable to Gentiles. Acts 15:13-21

    Everyone, including Paul seemed to relax after that.😁

    Their teaching that Jesus put an end to the need for his disciples to keep the Jewish Law

    Not sure the book of Hebrews would agree with you there Cofty, but then that was written by Paul and not Jesus.
