From what I recall all throughout the years (and this is going back more than two decades) mine had decent jobs. I can only recall maybe one (or possibly two) had cleaning or janitorial jobs BUT their wives had jobs that earned benefits!!
The other men were mostly older and had either retired from or nearing it from either good trades, blue collar, white collar and salesman.
I remember having a conversation with one about retirement and the "system still being here", Etc. He very nicely told me "well, that's why he's working a little extra here and there so as to put more away".
I can see from all the other posters have said that most (maybe not all) elders were doing rather well....So, just WHO was supposed to be pursuing the poverty the Jehovah's Witness religion was preaching??? It certainly wasn't for THEM, just mostly for the single women there. Do as I say, not as I do.
Well, I wasn't having any of their hypocritical garbage and I made sure I held onto my career until retirement.
