Some of y'all may know why I am asking this, but I am curious about it.. Sexting in the elders book says it's enough to warrant a jc but it's very loose at it... What's y'all opinion? Do elders care Alot of it? What if it's an old case?

I know of at least one case of a person being disfellowshipped for it.

You got to be kidding. If I was going to be disfellowshipped for some sexual issue I would at least expect an exchange of body fluids. Otherwise, what is the point?

I don't know why you are asking, but I wonder what do you as an individual think about it. What's your policy on it?

There was an infamous for-CO-eyes-only letter on this topic that was shared with elders (verbally only, of course) in the Friday-night elders meeting with COs. IIRC, this was maybe 15 or so years ago. Maybe 20 - it was during the heyday of the "900 number" sex lines.

As most are probably aware, spanking the monkey, to put it delicately, is not a DF offense.

My impression is that a significant number, but not enough, of the GB are disappointed by this "loophole".

Anyway, the CO letter outlined a way which to allow elders to DF someone in particular circumstances:

    If the person:

-- Was connected by phone to another human

-- They engaged in sex talk

-- One or both masturbated during the call

...then he/she could be DF'ed. That combination of circumstances was rendered equivalent to "porneia".

To my knowledge, that policy has never been rescinded. I suspect if someone shined the flagpole as a result of sexting, as opposed to simply talking on the phone, it would result in the same outcome - DF.

Young children pre-teens have access to mobile phones nowadys with the approval of their parents many of whom would not monitor what their children use it for .

Keeping in mind the society we live in today children are subject to sexually explicit material on TV ,videos, movies etc especially if the parents are lax in supervising what children can watch.

And children being who they are will find ways to pull the wool over the eyes of their parents being inquisitive about sex.especially if their peers have freedom to view such content.

So YES ,I think sexting in this sense is a very serious problem that many young people are involved in.

The next step is to send photos using your phone of nude or more explicit poses to your boy or girl friend that teenage youths are becoming more prevalent causing all manner of problems for our youth today. And of course this is a serious problem especially when one partner puts pressure on the other to do something out of fear of having it shown to family or friends. (blackmail)

In this case it should be a crime.

I remember hearing/reading about this in the context of online chat rooms. This would have been around the early or mid 00s.

In the UK it is a criminal offence to sext with anyone under the age of 16. Was clearly shown in a weekly drama we have called Eastenders where an 18 year old sent an explicit picture of himself to a girl who he did not realize was only14. He got a criminal record, and it was reported in the papers, so some people literally shunned him

What would worry me is the lasting record of anything like that. A change of heart. Sharing. Even revenge.
