Now that you've left the witnesses behind, do you feel that you have become a more courageous person?

I mean, more courageous than the average person?

Do you find that you can cock a snook at officials and remain untroubled by them?

I thought it was "fortune favors the foolish." Oops. No wonder my life is screwed up.

I suppose that I'm more brave now that I'm not a JW, if only in the sense that my "Give-a-sh*t factor" is very low (as my brother puts it).

It was a two-edged sword at first.

On one hand it was a great relief to be rid of pressure of being a JW and the constant meeting attendance and field service, and swallowing whatever doctrine was served our way, but at the same time the feeling of sureness about my future, live everlasting in the New World was gone. I always felt connected to God, (whether this is true or an inculcated fantasy) and that always gave me a sense of hope. That was gone and that was stressful. So it would seem I exchanged one plate of anxiety for another plate of new but equal anxiety.

Over time it has been worth it. Kind of like being kicked out of the house for the first time and wondering if you can survive on your own. But, yes, I trust my own judgment more, am less gullible to whatever people try to sell me in the way of ideas and philosophies, and have adjusted to my new outlook, and the fact it may keep changing and evolving, with more comfort and ease. I have a stronger sense of independence and trust in my own judgment more than I ever did as a JW. I would say that is because I'm not sitting in a kingdom hall listening to messages that foster guilt and self-loathing three days a week.

LMFAO .... if you thought about doing that in L.A., you'd be either dead or $500 bucks richer.

    Eman,

I'm not sure what I feel is courageousness. I think courage is something that drives you to move forward despite your fears.

I think what has happened is that I have lost my fears. The people and things that once had the power to control me no longer have an enfluence. The last few years inside the org I was battling with CO's and the Society over issues and I think I was more courageous then because I really believed that stuff and had to overcome fear to stand up to them. Gradually I lost faith in them and the system and with that I lost the fear. This transition seems to have affected my attitude toward other 'officials' as well.

As to "cook a snook" THAT DOES SOUND SCARY! (waiting for Eman to explain the phrase)
