    O Holy Night

This is universally seen as a Christmas song, but when you read the lyrics they're moving, simple and beautiful, & doctrinally not at odds with pretty much any denomination even JWs. Yet because it's from so called BtG it's off limits.

    -

    O Holy Night!

    The stars are brightly shining

It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!

Long lay the world in sin and error pining

Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

    Fall on your knees

    Oh hear the angel voices

    Oh night divine

Oh night when Christ was born

Truly He taught us to love one another

His law is love and His gospel is peace

Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother

And in His name all oppression shall cease

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,

Let all within us praise His holy name

    Fall on your knees

    Oh hear the angel voices

    Oh night divine

Oh night when Christ was born

Agree that you would never hear anything associated with Christmas in any Hall.....especially this crown of Christmas Carol's. One lovely rendition is by Lucy and Martha Thomas.

What’s funny is that a lot of hymns you will never hear is the original versions of the ones they ripped off themselves. There are a ton of Protestant and Presbyterian songs that have very strong similarities both in the composition and verses that have been twisted to fit their dogma.

    Children's hymn- Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me! This I know,
    For the Bible tells me so;
    Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak but He is strong.
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died,
    Heaven's gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!

    The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! loves me still,
    When I'm very weak and ill;
From His shining throne on high,
Comes to watch me where I lie.
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!

    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He will stay,
    Close beside me all the way;
He's prepared a home for me,
And some day His face I'll see.
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    Yes, Jesus loves me!
    The Bible tells me so

    @ Carla,

Imagine, Jehovah’s Witnesses can't even personally thank Jesus for his love.

    Good point Neat Blue Dog

There's quite a lot of hymns that weren't written specifically for Christmas, although they may be used then. Or for any specific denomination. Many are taken from old spiritual (US) or folk traditional, and you couldn't get more humble and non-Babylon-ish than that....old slaves in their hut or serfs in their hovels, praying for deliverance. Makes me feel quite emotional, actually thinking of their suffering. Modern JWs couldn't conceive of that 'persecution'.

I doubt you'd hear the Canadian National Anthem (Ode to Justin):

    I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night and I work all dayHe's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all dayI cut down trees, I eat my lunch
    I go to the lavatory
On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for teaHe cuts down trees, he eat his lunch
    He goes to the lavatory
On Wednesdays he goes shopping and has buttered scones for teaI'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night and I work all dayI cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers
I put on women's clothing and hang around in barsHe cuts down trees, he skips and jumps
He likes to press wild flowers
He puts on women's clothing and hangs around in barsI'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night and I work all dayI cut down trees, I wear high heels
    Suspendies and a bra
I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear PapaHe cuts down trees, he wears high heels?
    Suspendies and a bra?He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all dayHe's a lumberjack and he's OK
Sleeps all night and he works all day
