What would YOU do?

If you were in a situation where you were the manager for a company with two branches, and you were told that you could be promoted to a better office, improved salary etc by becoming regional manager, but only if most of the people in your branch lost their jobs and the rest were incorporated into the other branch, would you take the promotion?

That's an interesting moral puzzler, isn't it?

So, is it the money or your employees?

So if you don't take the job, does everyone get to keep their old jobs? If not, there's no real dilemma. Aw hell, there's no dilemma anyway, screw the little people, I'm buying a Porsche!

I just don't think my conscience could let me...NOT take the money!!! Oh okay, I'm really not that hard hearted. I'd save the jobs. But, I'd be REALLY tempted. ~Aztec

Well if you don't take the job will you lose the one you have. I have been in a situation where either decision to go or not to go would ultimately lead to the same outcome but with my butt in a sling as well. Take care of number one, it sounds like they are down sizing and you may be one of the down sized.

Oh by the way, syninimus, syninimus, syninimus.....Greven I hope you like Miracle Wheat!

    I'd be careful!

I remember when a very militant shop steward where my wife worked used to run rings round management. The woman was absolutely superb and management was genuinely afraid of her. So what did they do? They offered the shop steward a top manager's job. The shop steward didn't have long to think about it and plumped for it. The union my wife belongs to lost a valuable spokesperson and management knew it. Guess what management did? Just three months down the line they made their new recruit redundant! How's that for an underhand manoeuvre. Problem solved!

Syn, if your scenario is true and it refers to your good self, be very careful. Perhaps your moving would result in THAT branch closing down - and you with it!

I'd quit to become a regular pioneer.

I hear the pay isn't that good, but job security is, especially if you are willing to move where the people are more gulliable.
