A Question

I would appreciate knowing from someone in the know if the goofy carts and rain covers are given to the congregation by the org. or if the congregation has to pay the org for them. I am sure I read that somewhere here in my lurking days, but am not finding it at present.

If the congregation is billed for it I intend to use that as a reason for my continued refusal to donate anything from now on.

    Thanks in advance.

The carts are purchased by the congregations, at least here in the UK.

The carts, and replacement parts/repair kits/rain covers/etc, along with other public witnessing equipment, are provided to congregations at no cost as part of the standard literature order/delivery, at least here in the UK.

I do believe that there was a 'suggested donation', which AFAIK was a relatively reasonable amount, when the Trollies where introduced, but this appears to have been dropped now.

    BUT

it's probably a bit like your computer printer... (cost of actual printer compared to ink cartridges)

The CAPITAL cost of the Carts almost pales into insignificance with the Carts RUNNING costs.

Running costs? Yeah! The large scale (often sticky-back) posters that need printing

I think a better reason to not donate is that the GB members fly first class on planes (with their wives) at $4,500 a ticket!!

BoE Letter July 15, 2014 - Witnessing in public places (note last sentence in para 6)

    6. Requesting public witnessing equipment: The Congregation Service Committee will determine the equipment to be requested and where it will be stored. Public witnessing equipment can be requested in the same way publications are requested. We are pleased to provide a document entitled Public Witnessing Supplies (S-80) that contains sample pictures and descriptions of standard carts, stands, tables, and kiosks. The equipment will remain the property of the congregation. Care should be taken to request only equipment that will be put to good use by publishers who have been trained in its use. The congregation may be informed that the cost of these carts will be covered by their contributions to the worldwide work.

So, no direct cost, nor any suggested cost provided

    That's all folks!

Take it for what it is (unsubstantiated), but it's my understanding from more than one senior Bethel contact that it's the GB's standard policy to only ever fly Coach/Economy, even to the point of refusing frequent flyer upgrades, lest some lowly J-dub see them comfortably tucked into First as they slog their way back to the cheap seats.

ah so that's what they call 'an inconvenient truth'

When the carts were first being rolled out a Bro. had told me that there was a back log of congs requesting the carts and each cong would have to get approved before getting a cart. According to this Bro. a donation of $90 was required for each cart received. In addition, new signs are printed for each special campaign. Some congs even print new signs for each WT and Awake. So money is flowing from the cart business. The carts are shipped in boxes and put together Ikea style.
