The situation described in this article would easily be surrounded by nonJW family members, neighbors, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and onlookers. Although WT can issue the command that nobody ask any questions about the judicial meeting and that nobody talk to the dfd, that certainly doesn't apply to all those nonJWs. And when the mother in this WT story recounts what has transpired and shows what the daughter wrote in the letter to any nonJW, what are they going to think? "What a bitch of a daughter in a stupid church. Poor mother."

What is really disgusting is the fact they are well aware of how the onlookers see the shunning. They put all effort to hide it carefully from the public. That's why https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/shunning/ is not not giving an accurate picture and that's why they dilute this dogma when asked by a journalist etc.

They certainly diluted this doctrine down when questioned during Australian Royal Commission!

The cherry-picking of the scriptures inside the WTBTS is sickening and heartbreaking.

    Show mercy to doubters
Jude 1:20-23 GWDear friends, use your most holy faith to grow. Pray with the Holy Spirit's help. [21] Remain in God's love as you look for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you eternal life. [22] Show mercy to those who have doubts. [23] Save others by snatching them from the fire of hell. Show mercy to others, even though you are afraid that you might be stained by their sinful lives.

Too bad they don't follow what Christ says ... ever. They give reason to be ignored. Anyone calling themselves followers of Christ, yet make rules that supercede his, shows they think they know better than Christ ... these people are to unequivocally be ignored if not shunned for their vain insolence.

Matthew 18:15-22 NET"If your brother sins, go and show him his fault when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have regained your brother. [16] But if he does not listen, take one or two others with you, so that at the testimony of two or three witnesses every matter may be established. [17] If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to listen to the church, treat him like a Gentile or a tax collector. [18] "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven. [19] Again, I tell you the truth, if two of you on earth agree about whatever you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. [20] For where two or three are assembled in my name, I am there among them." [21] Then Peter came to him and said, "Lord, how many times must I forgive my brother who sins against me? As many as seven times?" [22] Jesus said to him, "Not seven times, I tell you, but seventy-seven times!

Let's hope more still ins felt this way yesterday. WT is digging their own grave. The comments on higher education, the zone meeting about a year and a half ago (Tony Morris talk), the money grab, the Bethel layoffs. It has to be having a tremendous impact on WT.

    @ ToesUp...

    Agreed.

The idea that they're becoming more and more dogmatic and authoritarian simply out of stupidity is naïve, IMO.

This is - at least to some degree - calculated to further alienate fence-sitters and moderates (like No Consequence's wife), as part of an agenda to prune the membership down to just hard-core loyalists.

After all, they're downsizing everything else... stands to reason they'd need to downsize the rank-and-file, too.

After the study, I was talking to my wife about it. I asked her if she happened to think of me during that study. She responded "in every paragraph" (on top of everything, I was not a JW when we married). I replied... "We both know that you do not agree with everything they write and that you do find yourself going like WHAT? sometimes. As much as I believe you and I trust you can tell the difference, would you agree if I joined a group that frequently dedicated speeches or writings to direct our attention to the negatives of our spouses and encouraged us to find way to make a separation among us? after a few seconds of silence, she said NO. I know this has been a point of contention in the past. I used to have a female co-worker who frequently tried to engage me in criticizing our respective spouses. Once she found out she was pissed and constantly asked me to keep my distance from her.
