Ps it's just dawned on me, I thought the 144,000 had to be unmarried virgins ?

Yep--12,000 virgin men from each of the 12 tribes of Israel.

"Virgins" is figurative. It means they don't figuratively prostitute themselves with governments (breaking God's laws) in order to get a selfish advantage.

(An example would be how the WTBT$ uses their legal department to protect pedophiles. God's law says to protect lowly ones. The WTBT$ leaders want to keep control over the "flock" so they can keep getting donations to feed their lifestyle on the lake, so they misuse the legal system in order to protect abusers and crush victims. When the WTBT$ leaders do such a thing, they are not acting as "virgins" who are "loyal to God and Christ". The WTBT$ are acting like harlots who are sleeping around for selfish gain.)

They're obviously not all "men" because the 144,000 includes women.

In the first century, a lot of the 144,000 were people like Mary and others who had kids.

Revelation is given in signs. The Bible explains what the signs mean. The "virgin" thing isn't literal.

you dont suppose--by any chance--the 144,000 is a figurative number as well ?

No, the "144,000" number is not figurative. The context and the rest of the Bible shows that it is a literal number.

There was a representative sample out of ancient Israel selected to work at the temple in a priestly capacity. They weren't any better than their brothers. (In fact, Levi was one of the sketchiest dudes in Jacob's family.) They numbered the Levites and numbered the guys in Israel and the difference in firstborn represented was made up for by a certain compensation because it had to be exact. It was a measurable number.

In Revelation, after talking about the set number 144,000 of those who serve in that specific assignment as priests in the heavenly kingdom capacity, it contrasts that to the great crowd of people "that no man is able to number".

The comparison between a set number and an amount "no man is able to number" shows the 144,000 is literal.

(Other times in the Bible something similar...Joseph interpreted Pharoah's dreams - the cows and wheat were symbolic but the "seven" was literal years. Also Nebuchadnezzar's dream that Daniel interpreted, the tree was figurative, symbolic of Nebuchadnezzar, but the seven times were seven literal years.)

@stanlivedeath, I know Jehovah hears all of our cries of anguish because of the horrid things the WTBT$ has done.

    Matthew 21:21,22

"In answer Jesus said to them: “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what I did to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And all the things you ask in prayer, having faith, you will receive.”"

In context, Jesus was talking about the Pharisaical scribes and religious leaders and their leaven.

    Mark 11:22,23

"In reply Jesus said to them: “Have faith in God. Truly I say to you that whoever tells this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but has faith that what he says is going to happen, he will have it happen."

Just as the mountain-like wicked hypocritical religious system of things was torn down in Jesus' day, so it will be again in our day.

    Luke 17:6

"Then the Lord said: “If you had faith the size of a mustard grain, you would say to this black mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea!’ and it would obey you.""

The prayers of those who beg Jehovah to tear down the branches (in fact the whole "tree") of the rotten Watchtower will be answered soon.

    Revelation 18:21

"And a strong angel lifted up a stone like a great millstone and hurled it into the sea, saying: “Thus with a swift pitch will Babylon the great city be hurled down, and she will never be found again.""

Just as Jehovah allowed the governments of the nations to tear down the religious system of things in the first century Jerusalem, so He will allow the governments to tear down the religious institutions on a grander scale in our day. Jehovah will do this in answer to our prayers.
