Chrome or Edge Browser? Which is Better?

Not really, it shows that MS have optimized things to make their own app as fast as possible. A 50Mb doc loaded from an SSD will be faster though and using any other app that doesn't pre-load itself will also be faster with an SSD.

Hard drives have no problem with continuous streaming of data like loading a movie - that is a great use-case for them. But for the type of access that happens with an internet cache, the mechanical nature and latency of a HDD makes them much slower than SSD.

Again, you're correct with all of that. A user who is routinely opening 50mb files, users like you and me will notice a benefit. Users like Kate, where she'll spend most of her time on here, youtube or one one of her many man-porn sites won't notice the difference.

The point I'm trying to get across isn't that SSD's aren't better than normal HDDs, they obviously are, in lots of scenarios, but for a lot of home users, due to the way they use their laptop, the benefit of larger storage will be greater than the slim increase in speed that they'll see with an SSD.

Ok, my opinion is that you see a slim increase when opening office (because it's been specifically optimized to pre-load itself at startup) but they will make a dramatic change for even for general internet browsing because all the small random file accesses typical of a browser cache is the *best* usage for SSD and the *worst* case for HDD.

If you are just streaming movies, a large HDD is the better choice but the overwhelming majority of users should see a real speedup by having an SSD. I'd put it down as the most cost effective performance improvement available whether you are buying a new PC or want to upgrade an old one.

There might not be a difference using outlook 2013, try using something like Adobe CS, there is a HUGE difference. Some CS apps take 2 minutes to open on a regular HD, and working of large documents i.e. InDesign literally causes constant pauses for 15-20 seconds any time you try and do *anything*.

This is on a Mac BTW, haven't used a PC in a long, long time.

Okay, SimonG and Landy, I can see you both have a lot more knowledge than me. I have read an absorbed everything.

I wanted to buy a fast car, I bought a £9000 Fiesta, 72 horse power and blue tooth 1.25litre, not a Mercedes like my friend SimonL, who spent less, on a faster car. My car is as fast as I need it and I can still burn him off at the lights when he is too busy reading his texts to notice the lights have changed.

If it takes longer than the time it takes to make a coffee I will make cereal too.

Landy, you seem to know what I do as well as SimonL and my daughter, except as well as porn, here, youtube, I go on facebook too. I had to take the bait lol, but I don't go on many, just pornhub really.

SimonG, You have very good advice and perhaps I will educate myself more about laptops while I am on leave for a few weeks.

I seem to be invisible here?

You have bough a £9000 Fiesta when you could have had an Audi S4 for the same price.

I wouldn't worry about it zombie dub - you're trying to convince someone who believes in god to make rational choices and not simply try to justify their previous wrong ones. Probably pointless.

Yes everyone is saying I am being irrational. Laika won't be impressed if he finds out I have been posting. But I won't tell if you don't lol xx
