The Daily Mail made the JW connection in their review.. he didn’t like the programme

Their lives revolve around their church, a sect apparently based on the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Rachel is sent out evangelising door-to-door when she would rather be studying, and David is obsessed with being made an Elder.”

I’ve watched the first two episodes and looking forward to the third.

it would be good to introduce the show to unknowing Jdubs and say you have to watch this it’s so funny

but I think they would call it apostate within a few mins

I wonder if we will get any letters to all congregations or anything in the broadcast or local needs items about staying away from apostate TV shows based on the organisation?

the more they say don’t look at apostate stuff the more people will think about why are they keep on saying this?

Episode 3 really sealed the deal that it’s based on JWs .

the teenage daughter is coming up to her 18th and she says they can’t celebrate them.

I think only JWs do this?

then sex is only for marriage and even dating is only for within a marriage

then they say let’s go on the ministry and how long shall we do preaching? It’s so pointing at JWs but only JWs would see the differences. Non JWs who watch this will feel so sorry for any JWs.

Rachel the lead teen daughter has become friends with a boy who is disfellowshiped and she has a friend in the cong who is leading a double life. All modest at the meetings then when she goes on the ministry she gets changed and goes and buys junk food from a shop that sell porn

she says she is sleeping with boys in the cong and they only last about 10 seconds 🤣

then the sister leading a double life gives Rachel a few tips about seeing this disfellowshiped boy and says look for loopholes.

there is loads of funny innuendo, “she wants to show you her burning bush” 🤣

I found episode 3 rather triggering. When she asks her parents if they'd shun her if she got "excluded". And they stay quiet.

My never-been-a-JW partner asked me if I was ok while we were watching it because I was silent the entire time.

The show is hilarious. I burst out laughing so many times. I hope it catches on with the public, i would love to see more episodes.

For those not in the UK, you can use a vpn program to change your ip and stream it from the channel 4 website or get the show from a torrent site, it's available

The end is interesting that the father admitted to having doubts

then is actually asked to be an elder after all

    But he refused

this could be referring to the shortage of appointed men they just don’t want it anymore

there is also a lot of truth in the comedy. There is often people in the congs leading a double life, and lots of secrets referred to in the story. The top elder has an apostate son who is the love interest of the daughter

I also think there is a nod to the son being gay with all the pictures he draws🤣
