Is God Dreaming

An idea i have been exploring for a while is the possibility that god is dreaming, and that we are all part of it. Mystics that strayed into pantheism, if there were any on this board would have input. I hope to hear from pagans and buddhists as well. Christians, well, you guys are only into faith, which doesn't allow for much independant exploration, but your comments are welcome all the same. Atheists?

Here is a quote of something that i found interesting:

God dreamed in the warm dark silence. All that was, all that would be, all that could be passed before Him. Abstract, crystalline, and beautiful, the equations of space and time unfolded like roses unfurling petals into the arms of infinity. On a blue white globe golden frogs lived and died within the watery pool of an orchid. In the vision of his dream, God beheld all of creation and saw that it was Good. God sighed. It was time. Screaming and gasping for air, God died and a baby was born.

Several aspects of what we call reality are kind of freaky, imo. First the huge amount of vast empty space (per our perceptive abilities) in outer space. This void is constantly growing as all systems are accelerating away from each other.

Second, is the huge amount of space in inner space, i.e. the space within atoms, between the different layers of orbiting electrons, and the nucleus. Of course there is always electromagnetism, but what is that, really?

Thirdly, is is the emptiness of individuals. I'm not talking about the emptiness people may feel because of lack of love or relationships or poverty. I mean the inner emptiness one realises when he/she starts meditating.

In meditation, the realisation comes that we are not our beliefs, or feelings, or thoughts. Although most people identify w them, and so believe that they are those, we cannot be those. The reason we are not those things is because what we are is the one that observes. As that which we are observes a feeling that is a reaction to a body stimulus or an external stimulus, we fuse w that feeling. Feelings come and they go, but we don't. We remain, at least for a number of yrs. A meditator is able to create a slight distance from feelings and thoughts. In this detatched state, the inner void can be detected.

By now you may think that several atoms in my right temporal lobe got overly excited and fused. So, if everything is real, why is there so much space?

Hey SS,the reason there is so much space is,so when you by stuff you have a place to put it.. I have a indoor fountain with my Budda`s ( yeah I got more than one) incence, and candles around it,I find it very calming..Years ago my mom asked if I worship the statues(dumb-ass dub, lol). I worship nothing, and told her so..I do love the Buddist art though..I came across a cast metal budda done by a buddist monk artist in Tibbet,a really nice piece and very pricey. The Budda of fortune..It belongs to a friend and it`s not for sale.I got to rub his fat belly though, now I`m waiting for the cash to roll in,LOL!...OUTLAW

Ya, the dubs are all confused about what constitutes worship.

There is some great buddhist art. Some of their mandalas are fine. They make some very nicely carved furniture pieces.

I have a number of friends in the scientific field (nuclear). A while back one of these friends told me that atoms tend to phase in and out of existence. I found that strange - they're not ALWAYS there - they kind of come and go. So WHERE do they go & come back from?? Interesting when you start to think about that in connection to a spiritual belief.

Perhaps we don't really exist anywhere except in God's mind.

Isnt that a belief of the deluded Mary Baker Eddy who founded 'Christian' Science?

If we look into things we find atoms - if we look into atoms we find space and subatomic particles that act to form an energy barrier, out of energy - if we look inside subatomic particles we find smaller bits that form that particular energy barrier - if we look inside quarks and ultimatons I dare say there's nothing there but another bunch of energy arrangements generating energy barriers.

There isn't a thing as such. We are of an arrangement.

Even science backs the notion that this 'reality' is not what constitutes a being, but rather, the spirit that resides, or forms the energy to really be as it is.

Is the arrangement a dream? Depends whether your dreaming I suppose.

One of the basic tenets of A Course in Miracles is that we are the ones who are dreaming. We are dreaming that we have a life separate and apart from the Creator. There is an interesting book with the title AWAKEN FROM THE DREAM by Gloria and Kenneth Wapnick with the sub-title, A Presentation of A Course in Miracles. It is available from Foundation for "ACIM", RD #2, Box 71, Roscoe, NY 12776. It contains an alternate creation myth which is very, very interesting.

OK, so God's dreaming and we're a part of that dream - but how'd the Borg get in on the dream? I mean, God shouldn't have nightmares, should he?

This is a little funny; you are talking about something VASTLY speculative and without any correlation whatsoever; and the difference between that and faith is?

Several aspects of what we call reality are kind of freaky, imo. First the huge amount of vast empty space (per our perceptive abilities) in outer space. This void is constantly growing as all systems are accelerating away from each other.

Why is this freaky? It's like saying, woo, trees are freaky, 'cause they're green. There's a reason that trees are green and a reason there is space. I find that, for me, this makes them unfreaky.

Second, is the huge amount of space in inner space, i.e. the space within atoms, between the different layers of orbiting electrons, and the nucleus. Of course there is always electromagnetism, but what is that, really?

Again, why is this freaky? It's like saying, woo, stones are solid, but bubble wrap isn't. Yes, and, so, what? As for electromagnetism; it is a fundamental physical force that is responsible for interactions between charged particles which occur because of their charge and for the emission and absorption of photons, that is about 100 times weaker than the strong force, and that extends over infinite distances but is dominant over atomic and molecular distances (Mirriam-Webster).

Thirdly, is is the emptiness of individuals. I'm not talking about the emptiness people may feel because of lack of love or relationships or poverty. I mean the inner emptiness one realises when he/she starts meditating.

    Wouldn't know. Really? Ugh!

In meditation, the realisation comes that we are not our beliefs, or feelings, or thoughts. Although most people identify w them, and so believe that they are those, we cannot be those. The reason we are not those things is because what we are is the one that observes.
Well, I know that. It's called being self-aware. Fun, isn't it?
As that which we are observes a feeling that is a reaction to a body stimulus or an external stimulus, we fuse w that feeling. Feelings come and they go, but we don't. We remain, at least for a number of yrs. A meditator is able to create a slight distance from feelings and thoughts. In this detatched state, the inner void can be detected.

Hmmm.... now that is a little snake oily to me. I can create a difference between feelings and thoughts, in fact, I don't create one, there IS one.

By now you may think that several atoms in my right temporal lobe got overly excited and fused. So, if everything is real, why is there so much space?

If almost everything is space, why is there so much real? Space is real too, so you are saying "If everything is real, why is there so much real", or if you want to break it down, If everything (i.e. material objects) is real (i.e. exists), why is there so much space (areas where 'real' 'material' objects can occur but that are currently empty)? Which kind of makes the sentence nonsensical. Why do dogs bark instead of going miaow?

Turgid stuff. Thank God I'm a materialist.
