An organization is in pretty bad shape when it lays off skilled workers that they only provide a small allowance and room and board. What do they expect to pay for professionals when they need special skills that the old Bethelites were known for. Who are they going to hire? Worldly people?

It almost seems like they are hunkering down, reducing their expenses to the absolute minimums required to keep the doors open for a few more years. The rank and file will be told or interpret all of these cutbacks as "storing wheat for the winter of increased persecution."

If they would just change their broken policies on child abuse management, shunning of those who have committed no sin other than refusing to believe their bullshit, and allow and encourage their members to get proper advanced educations.

All of these cutbacks just don't make sense - unless donations are really falling off completely. I've heard many rumors that most of the contributions in some Kingdom Halls are actually coming only from the elders and MS volunteers. One email I got from a "fading elder" mentioned that his personal monthly contributions were over $300. "Without me and a couple of other elders tossing in direct contributions of over $200 each, our Kingdom Hall would completely go broke. One brother suggested moving the contribution boxes next to the exit doors at the end of our meetings and have an elder or MS stand next to them like they do at conventions. He thinks that would shame most of the brothers into dropping something in the box on their way out the door. I know it goes against everything we've said about contributions, but we are getting desperate."

Personally, I hope they have to shut down and sell off every Kingdom Hall and have to start renting empty store fronts like we did back in the 1940s and 50s.

Even prisoners have assistance reintegrating back into society after a 20 year stretch of "service".

Can Watchtower really not do any better than to just tell a 30-year veteran his services are no longer required, "Have a nice day" ?

no healthcare costs in the UK--we have a very good NHS--national heath service.

but--this is part funded by NI--national insurance contributions----but this is only payable above a set salary level--so i would imagine bethel workers would be exempt.

i would laugh myself silly if the US HQ decided to axe the london bethel completely---what would the likes of Vigo--Drage--and Ellis then do ?

i wonder if those guys are reading this ? they must all be on state pension now--all older than me. so---they cost mother nothing.

stan - they cost mother nothing

They are scrounging bigheads. They will scrounge from the r&f or the state system. Either way, the WBT$ doesn't care about them, no matter what type of company men they are.

Layoffs are very telling. Hopefully, the WBT$ are cutting their own throats.

Yeah, those moves by WT leadership seem not-so-clever by business standards.

But, then again, maybe the GB themselves decided to follow the directive they gave in the wt magazine, and "follow their orders, whether they seem strategic from a human standpoint or not". :-P

If the real leading force of the WTS is the GB and not some obscure lawyers and accountants, then don't underestimate the power of religious lunacy: we're talking about guys who deny evolution and believe that mankind is 6,000 years old: in other words, semi-illiterate ignorant less-than-bright delusional fanatics, most of whom haven't even lived (and worked) in the real word like ever. Why wouldn't they take unreasonable decisions?

At the same time, they probably rely a lot on the sheep's naivety and obedience, and feel they can take whatever inhumane measure and get away with it. This is usually true so far; but it may backfire some day; there's got to be a "red line", even for naive sheep (not?)

$15 million savings or maybe two Candace Conti settlements.

An effective child protection policy would have been a lot cheaper than dealing with the consequences!

I get your point " slim" so I gave you a green thumb, but I believe the Conti case on appeal is now in the region of only $2 million. The only people that win on these legal cases are the lawyers. Do you have any idea if the W.T employed an outside legal firm on this case?

What I am trying to say is, did the W.T use " W.T lawyers" or did the W.T, employ " A Worldly" team of lawyers to represent them?

    The Rebel

p.s this has become a long thread, and I only just noticed my origionalquestions on the O.P are unanswered. Even I can't remember them, Oh Yes, so let me rephrase the question:-

    A) How can getting rid of long serving " Volunteer" non " employed " bethalites be a smart business move?

    B) Surely this will cause many to awaken to " the truth" and either:-

    -Leave

    or

    Stop donating.

So how is getting rid of " volunteer" bethelites a constructive way to resolve W.T financial problems?

    The Rebel.

Bingo! Although, it's still not nearly enough cutbacks to keep them afloat. There will be more...

Slim- don't take the 15 mil in savings as a fact. I was just trying to show how much it adds up. It could be much more in savings, idk...
