Similarly, for a long time, Witnesses spoke of the vindication of Jehovah's name. But had Satan called Jehovah's name into question? For that matter, had any of Satan's agents done so, as if Jehovah did not have a right to that name? No, not at all. It was not the name of Jehovah that was challenged and that needed to be vindicated. That is why the Watch Tower Society's recent publications do not speak of Jehovah's name as being vindicated. They speak of Jehovah's sovereignty as being vindicated and of his name as being sanctified. This is in keeping with what Jesus told us to pray: "Let your name be sanctified." (Matthew 6:9) Time and again, Jehovah said that he was going to sanctify his name, which the Israelites had not challenged but had profaned.-Ezekiel 20:9, 14, 22; 36:23.

Thanks for the quote! The name of the article is Flashes of Light. So if it really wasn't light what is it then? They even word it all the same way they do today, 'For a long time, we ... But ... You will notice that in recent publications ... Evidently ... Therefore ...'

Don't people realize that these are the same generation who were guaranteed they would never grow old? Isn't this hitting ANYBODY in the audience?!

Probably quite a few, but they're too intimidated to let anyone know...

The audience is thrilled that they now have 'permission' to say God's name can be vindicated.

What? What is preaching Armageddon is coming, if not to prove vindication of God's name and authority?

EDIT: I just read that 95 WT quote. What a load of crap. Vindication, sanctification, let's call the whole thing off

    Here's a weird one:
One of the last announcements was that all of the society's corporate shareholders and their guests would be given a free meal afterwards. 🤔

Yeah, it was not the brothers and sisters invited to the shareholders meeting, it was the society's corporate shareholders. Mike and Kim caught that one, and please don't dis me for listening to them! :)

    @neat blue dog:

Stephen Lett just said that God gave Jesus "immorality" in the heavens. The audience laughed and he corrected himself. Seconds later he said "organism". Couldn't help thinking he dodged a bullet with that word too 😉

Back in the day when I attended meetings and went to the good ol in-home book study, it was held at an older brother’s house. This guy was one step away from senile, but out of respect, he was most often the reader. When we studied the creation book we learned, of course, that all “orgasms” were created, not evolved. We learned that God created all varieties of “orgasms”, and in the future we would live in peace with the animals and “orgasms”.

It was the hardest (no pun intended) thing to sit through. Everyone was embarrassed. Paragraph after paragraph. The conductor didn’t want to correct him or reassign the reading in the middle of the study - too awkward I guess. Kids that were just starting to read, but who were not so confident, started to say “orgasm” too.

    Good lord.

    This just in from Heaven:

Jehovah God expresses deep gratitude - and relief - to the GB that His name will be vindicated after all!

Much rejoicing all round from the Heavenly Choir!

Cue to video of JWs applauding in unison with the Heavenly Choir in response to the latest new light.

And apostates say this is not the Truth. Shesh!

pale.emperor: Can somebody explain to me what the sanctification/vindication thing is all about please?

I believe it is tied into this:

    Watchtower May 15, 1995, pages 24 and 25

Part 2: Flashes of Light — Great and Small: Increased Light on Terminology

For a long time, Witnesses spoke of the vindication of Jehovah’s name. But had Satan called Jehovah’s name into question? For that matter, had any of Satan’s agents done so, as if Jehovah did not have a right to that name? No, not at all. It was not the name of Jehovah that was challenged and that needed to be vindicated. That is why the Watch Tower Society’s recent publications do not speak of Jehovah’s name as being vindicated. They speak of Jehovah’s sovereignty as being vindicated and of his name as being sanctified. This is in keeping with what Jesus told us to pray: “Let your name be sanctified.” (Matthew 6:9) Time and again, Jehovah said that he was going to sanctify his name, which the Israelites had not challenged but had profaned.—Ezekiel 20:9, 14, 22; 36:23.

Interestingly, in 1971, the book “The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah”—How? made this distinction: “Jesus Christ fights . . . for the vindication of Jehovah’s universal Sovereignty and for the glorification of Jehovah’s name.” (Pages 364-5) In 1973, God’s Kingdom of a Thousand Years Has Approached said: “The coming ‘great tribulation’ is the time for Almighty God Jehovah to vindicate his universal sovereignty and to sanctify his worthy name.” (Page 409) Then, in 1975, Man’s Salvation Out Of World Distress at Hand! stated: “The greatest event of universal history will then have been accomplished, the vindication of Jehovah’s universal sovereignty and the sanctification of his sacred name.”—Page 281.
