Mulan, I really feel badly for your Mom, who through no fault of her own - the infirmities of age - is unable to get to the Hall as much as she would like to. Aren't there any pioneers in that congregation? They are out and about all the time, working out their personal salvation preaching the good news of the kingdom: I'd think they'd relish the opportunity to visit a friendly and appreciative face on a regular basis.

Big Red's comment about how they don't know what to do unless they are told reminded me of this, posted here a couple of days ago,

"All that is not mandatory is forbidden"

A clear mark of a mind control cult.

They should be warmly welcomed, and not be whispered about, and not shunned." ..Translation:This is what we were told to do before, this is what we want you to do now. It`s all information directly from god,but he`s such a scatter brain,we may want you to do something else tommorow...OUTLAW

Marylin I doubt anyone will get it. Talk is cheap. We've had local needs talks about gossip at my old hall yet after the meeting people were gossiping about the gossips.

Actually, a recent WT used a different illustration. If a sheep gets lost and falls onto a ledge, it is the sheep's responsibility to yelp loud enough for the shepherd to hear it and come. It is not the shepherd's responsibility to take a head count and notice one is missting and go looking until he finds it. The sheep must yelp to be found.

Does anyone know what the name of the congregation is for Battle Ground, WA? Is it just BG? And does anyone know people from that hall?

what you quoted is shocking. thats terrible. it just isn't right. sometimes you just HAVE to go looking for lost sheep. they are to hurt, or embarrased to ask for help.

    dang.

    Good comments, Crinkelstein.

We know very well that this business of searching for "inactive ones" is just a way to try to get the numbers up for the next service year. If the JWs need to be told by the numbers-conscious Service Dept. to do what ought to come naturally, then you know it won't last. It especially won't last given the Society's extreme negativity in the last couple of decades towards anyone who dares to leave. That JWs generally reject, and even shun, those who even quietly drifted away is an attitude directly and consciously promoted by Bethel hardliners. Twenty years of training is not going to be reversed by a few weeks of "encouraging" talks.

Sounds like this PO is fairly liberal, maybe not a Society Man through and through (there's a few left around).

Although asking JW's not to gossip is almost silly. What else do they have to do?

OUTLAW, leave it to you, to make me laugh. Your sense of humor is a breath of fresh air.
