    From the RNWT

    Matthew 28:19

19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations,+ baptizing them+ in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit,

I notice that there is no cross reference to the phrase

The WTS also tends to edit scriptures, ignoring the part they don't want to emphasize because it cause some to wonder, "why was that part left out." I call these edits, snippets.

FInkelstein - "Here's a fact .... the ancient Hebrews lied and bullshited up stories particularly about their god(s)..."

Actually, more recent academic scholarship strongly suggests that the Torah (particularly Genesis) was never meant to be read as 100% literal fact.

I suspect this is the actual origin of historical antisemitism in the Church.

Christian theology was always been at least partially based on the assumption that the Eden narrative was actual history...

...and demonizing Jews - and by extension, Judaism - would have very effectively kept the average layperson from discovering that the actual authors of the Old Testament themselves specifically wrote Genesis as figurative, instead.

    Hi Vidiot,

that the actual authors of the Old Testament themselves specifically wrote Genesis as figurative, instead.

Isn't that the Catholic view of Genesis now?

Matt 28:19,20 is a misinterpreted and iffy scripture.

I don't believe that Jesus said "In the name of the father, son and Holy spirit". There is no explanation of what that means or no context behind it. Jesus does not teach without an explanation.

And the Go therefore and make disciples is not a command as they elders would say.

They had just asked Jesus if he was going to restore Jerusalem to the Jews. Jesus said to not worry about it, but your job is to go and preach. As he said that he ascended to heaven. He was just directing them to focus on the heavenly kingdom and not the earthly one.

Rattigan350, you comment made me remember, that this phrase: father, son, holy spirit in this context does not appear anywhere else in the NT.

R: not exactly, The story is, that Jesus, angelic, resurrected, and sporting a temporary human body appeared many times to the disciples. The 500+ was one of those many, but not the last, which culminated with his levitation.

The question was about the sovereign kingdom of Israel. Jesus referred them to the enigmatic "time" component, only the creator understands, not even Einstein. --Interestingly,

None of the listeners at that take off were of the anointed, although Jesus had served them the bread and wine.

    Moral of the story:

Just because you partake, does not mean you are anointed.

Yup, along with just about every other mainstream flavor of Christianity.

    A thousand years ago, though?

    Not so much.

btlc - Same work as Jesus outlined, by omiting and denying his words how to baptize disciples? Sure.

    From the Watchtower Jan 2020
Nearly 300,000 people each year get baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses and become disciples of Jesus Christ!

They admit that they are baptizing them as JW's and not in the name of 'the father, the son and the HS.

They don`t say that surely ?

Followers of Jesus Christ , Christians , are to be witnesses of Jesus ,not Jehovah according to the NWT of the Bible .
