Genesis Lifetimes and Numerology

Out of morbid curiosity, I would like to here reduce the digits of the lifetimes stated in Genesis chapter 5. It is clear that no human being has ever lived that long, and perhaps there is some numerological meaning to these numbers rather than literal history. Let's see what happens.

For reference: http://mysticalnumbers.com/ and when I speak of "reducing" numbers, I am referring to the practice of adding their digits together. So, the number 123 reduces to 6. I will quote from Genesis 5 in the New International Version.

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

130 reduces to 4, 800 reduces to 8 which is twice 4, and the total is 930 which reduces to 12 and then 3.

4 symbolizes stability (think of a square and its use in architecture), 8 symbolizes abundance ("be fruitful and become many"), 12 symbolizes cosmic order (astrology). It's banal and redundant to point out that 12 = 4 + 8.

The number 3 (think of a triangle and its use in all kinds of design) symbolizes good fortune, but there is far more than that. Gurdjieff wrote extensively about the Rule of Three. (Any C++ programmer also knows of another Rule of Three.) It was very important to Pythagoras, very important to the Egyptians, very important to the Hebrews. The number 12 not only reduces to 3, but is also a multiple of 3 and 4. This number occurs not only in architecture but also in cosmology and doctrine.

6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father[b] of Enosh. 7 After he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8 Altogether, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.

105 reduces to 6, 807 reduces to 15 which reduces to 6, and 912 reduces to 12 which again reduces to 3. The number 6 is symbolic of beauty (and you have only to look at sacred geometry and the very "sixiness" of circles to understand why). 6 + 6 = 12 which reduces to 3, and 15 + 6 = 21 which also reduces to 3.

9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. 10 After he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11 Altogether, Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.

90 reduces to 9, of course, and 815 reduces to 14 and then 5. 905 reduces to 14 also, and again 5.

The number 9 symbolizes wisdom, and is recurring in scripture when you start reducing numbers like 144000, 1260, 2520, and 666. It is also 3 squared. 9's also reduce themselves, as 9 + 5 = 14 which reduces to 5, and 9 + 14 = 23 which also reduces to 5.

The number 5 symbolizes balance, and it's the marriage of the male (3) with the female (2).

12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. 13 After he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died.

    70 reduces to 7, 840 reduces to 12 and then 3, and 910 reduces to 10 and then 1.

The number 10 symbolizes completion. (Even the WTBTS agrees with that.) 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10. And the number 1? That was referred to by the Pythagoreans as the Monad, the Creator. It is the first, the leader, the one at the top, the human being. It is also the loneliest number, and so you need 1 more to form a partnership, which is the number 2.

15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. 16 After he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died.

65 reduces to 11 and then 2, 830 reduces to 11 and then 2, and 895 reduces to 13 and then 4. The number 2 symbolizes partnership, but also division. Without 2, you can't have positive and negative.

18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 After he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.

162 reduces to 9, 800 reduces to 8 and happened earlier with Adam. 962 reduces to 8. (Remember that 9's reduce themselves.)

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

65 reduces to 11 and then 2, 300 reduces to 3, and the number 365, which should be lost on nobody in modern times, reduces to 5.

25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. 26 After he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27 Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.

187 reduces to 9, 782 reduces to 9, and 969 reduces to 6. This demonstrates something about 9's: Wisdom + Wisdom = Beauty. And, it's funny that Beauty is sandwiched in 969 between two Wisdoms. Idunno, just a fun number there.

28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. 29 He named him Noah[c] and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” 30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31 Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.

182 reduces to 2, 595 reduces to 10 and then 1. And then... 777? Really? There it is. 777. Well, that reduces to 21 and then 3, which is 2 + 1.

32 After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.

    ...

6 Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. (Genesis 7:6)

    ...

28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years. 29 Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died. (Genesis 9:28,29)

500 reduces to 5. (I'm not sure how he begets 3 sons in 1 year unless they're all triplets or 2 of them are twins. But there is demonstrably no sense in a literal reading here.) Adding 1 to 5 brings you to 6, which is what 600 reduces to. 350 reduces to 8 and 950 reduces to 14 and then 5.

The ages when these men had sons are 130, 105, 90, 70, 65, 162, 65, 187, 182, and 500. These reduce to 4, 6, 9, 7, 2, 9, 2, 7, 2, and 5. These add up to 53, which adds up to 8. There are also 1656 years from the birth of Seth to the Deluge, which reduces to 9.

    Finally, here is the sequence of these lifetimes: 930, 912, 905, 910, 895, 962, 365, 777, and 950. These reduce to 3, 3, 5, 1, 4, 8, 5, 3, and 5. These numbers add up to 37. 37 reduces to 10. Completion.

Take all that for what you will, or it's fine if you reject it all out of hand. God bless, I guess.

    WATCHTOWER NUMEROLOGY:

    1914 x 1975 + 607 = How Could WatchTower Possibly Be Wrong?!!

@OUTLAW, I've said it before but I find this interesting: 1914 was a Year of the Tiger on the Chinese calendar. So were 1926 ("Well, that didn't happen..."), 1974 ("Stay alive till '75!"), 1986 ("Peace and security!"), and 2010 ("Overlapping generations.... oh..."). 607 BCE, too.

So maybe something interesting will happen in Watchtowerland in 2022. Maybe. Not enough emphasis can be placed on the word maybe.

    CORRECTION:

    Finally, here is the sequence of these lifetimes: 930, 912, 905, 910, 895, 962, 365, 777, and 950. These reduce to 3, 3, 5, 1, 4, 8, 5, 3, and 5. These numbers add up to 37. 37 reduces to 10. Completion.

I somehow missed Methuselah's lifetime in this sequence. Since 969 reduces to 6, 10 + 6 = 16, which reduces to 7. Which is Perfection, but it's not as climactic as the 10 I had concluded with. Oh well, that is the result. 7.

These numbers add up to 37, 37 reduces to 10. Completion.

And if you multiply 10 by my next door neighbour's post box number, you get 2030. Armageddon in 2030, everyone!!!

By the way, that sort of numerology only works using Arabic numerals. For example, get completely different results using, say Roman numerals. (Eg 24 would "reduce" to 26, instead of 6, etc)

Anyway, I suppose numerology is a lot of fun, until someone is silly enough to take it too seriously.

Oh, sure. I do find things like that interesting enough, and I absolutely feel that Qabbalah is a bit more revealing about scripture than, say, a literal interpretation.

    Regarding the numerals:

Do you see the tetragrammaton in numbers and what is your take on the number of the beast - 666?

  • schnell
    schnell

@Listener, the tetragrammaton is yod-he-va-he, or 10-5-6-5. This reduces to 8. But do you ever notice that it looks like a little man if you wrote it vertically? The yod is the head, he is the arms, va is the torso, and the last he is the legs. It's silly and childish, but it's a simple metaphor hidden in plain sight.

And, eh, 666 reduces to 9. Also, Nero.

I hate my own life span subject to the needs to fit, to satisfy such schemes;-- bacteria, viruses are bad enough.

I am fascinated with numerology written in the planets (wandering stars). in the Bode sequence the Earth is 10. count it on your fingers.
