No Soliciting signage and JW Policy

As far as the USA is concerned, the activities of JW's are not considered soliciting. There's been court cases establishing this. "No soliciting signs" or "no salesman" signs or whatever, technically do not apply.

No Trespassing (or I suppose NO JW) signs are definitely the way to go. Now I think 'most' JWs avoid homes with them (YMMV) because if a householder presses charges or whatever (which they can) the WT will not back that JW in court.

You should put a sign up saying "No religious cults". If they don't call, it's an admission that they are a cult ... if they do, well - you get to point out that they are a cult.

    Either way, it's a win!

Wifibandit, THAT'S what I had in mind. This is a bit different than the direction 10-ish years ago.

    Thanks for the updated info!

I always specifically told the groups I took that if they see ANY sort of sign indicating that the householder did not want uninvited calls, to leave straight away.

Many tried to argue the SPECIFIC types of signs etc....

I simply kept stating "regardless of the TYPE of sign, or its SPECIFIC wording, the INTENT is clear! They don't want anyone to call on their home"

We needed to respect peoples wishes, and that would actually show our "reasonableness"

I was counselled that I had "lost my zeal and was not respecting the importance of our work!!!!"

SIAR - that would have been like my father - he always took the route of 'respect the other person'. I have often wondered why he 'stepped down'. There is no room for common sense and respect for the person, in the JWS.

    Good on ya! xx

Oubliette, I actually thought of doing this once or twice.

Does your condo project have a common area like a cabana? You might rent it for a night and pass the word you're having a seminar on how to talk to JW's when they're at the door. You could give them a few good talking points to bring up and tell them that if the JW's ask where they get their information, they can say that somebody that lives there is an xjw, and runs a class on them.

With a bit of luck, you may be able to get the whole project put on a "don't go here" list.

    Fantastic letter wifibandit!

Once again, your work in uploading these letters is greatly appreciated!

Here are above previous conversations about soliciting versus trespassing. The decision in the WTS was that jws should heed trespassing signs or be personally responsible for any legal repercussions. Soliciting has been resolved in the courts as acceptable. So tell any non-jws to post no trespassing signs on their property per the local laws.
