The Italian,

Ciao! Buon giorno. (And that's the extent of my Italian). First, I wish to welcome you to the forum.

I also want to tell you about some friends of mine (a family), who spent some time in Rome in 1996-1997. They have since returned to the U.S., but have moved away from where I live and I only see them occasionally. However, they were at the time exploring a Catholic lay community called Sant Egidio with the idea of carrying out in America what they learned there. I wonder if you have ever heard of it? While in Rome, they lived in an apartment on the corner of Via San Silverio and Gregorio Settimo. One of the children attended Due Ottobre; this school was in an area called Fornacci, a neighorhood I believe close to the Vatican. And my friend worked with the Missionaries of Charity in a soup kitchen operating in the Vatican walls; he also worked with the elderly, etc. Since his return to the U.S., my friend is now working as a lay chaplain to the inmates on death row at Raiford, Florida.

You can copy your post below to make sure it is not lost:

Geesh, SandraC, You ought to know my Mum and speak her dialect too, from the utmost south of Italy: ;if not because of fights with Bethelites I was raised in the fear of not so certain Italian origin...

Hail thee, Kenneson, Haye, Sant'Egidio is a very socially and politically engaged catholic movement, which is attracting my attention in the strong position they usually hold ;regarding peace. It's located here in Rome in a lovely (and lively) area of Rome called Trastevere; but few details I know of its historical growth, if not for its proximity to the leftist movements. A pleasure will be to me, when your friends return, to meet them. Thanks!

cruzanheart: No, not standing before elders, publicly. Not yet. But I can truly say they fear my knowledge. And my "unblemished" conduct. Thankyou, and the best I wish for your "kids".

Heaven: scattered ;between time and topics, but I'll be here. I've been listening to you.
