Is it true that a "Light" beer in the US refers to its calorie level, rather than its alcohol content?

Yes Stephanus. Either spelling 'Light' or 'Lite' will do, for describing that it's not so heavy (and filling) as a regular beer.

I also understand that most foreign beers (like Fosters ) have to be rebrewed for the US market, where the permissible alcohol level is much lower. That true too?

Yep. Bummer too. I really prefer the taste of foreign beers.

Tex, the real pity is that because the beer has to be brewed according to a lower alcohol formula, you're not getting the real taste of the beer as it would be in its native habitat.

Dave made that beer. Next time you're here, he can take you to make some too.
