Actually in Steve Hassan's 2nd and 3rd books " Releasing the Bonds " and " Freedom of Mind " he does mention Jehovah's Witnesses as being a cult several times. His 1st book " Combatting Cult Mind Control " was the ONLY one of his 3 books where he did not mention JW's as being a mind control cult. " Releasing the Bonds " was written I believe in 2000 and " Freedom of Mind " 2012 - so it's not really a NEW thing that Hassan is classifying JW's as a cult. But I understand the latest quote is new though. Thought I'd add a little bit here
