    Neon,
I think I just figured out that Chapin song(2). Anywhere's a Better Place To Be. Or is that just another lyric?

Actually, the title was just A Better Place to Be, but that's close enough for me. Good work!!

Now, how about the other four?

7).the only spoken lines in this song
I know this is the same road I took the day I left home,
but it sure looks different now. And I guess I look
different too, cause time changes everything. I wonder what
they'll say, when they see their boy looking this bad.

I'm not sure, but might this be The Green, Green Grass of Home? by the Kingston Trio, I think...

Nah, Neon, that's not it. Green Green Grass is about a guy on death row whose body will be shipped home to be buried after he's executed. This one appears to be about a guy coming home from Vietnam.

very good and very close on that number 7 song. The song got a lot of attention back when.

     Oh...OK, another hint.
Oh I wonder what they'll say when I get home
    Can't remember when I ate
It's just thumb and walk and wait
    chorus
If my luck had been just right
I'd be with them all tonight

    chorus

    500 MILES AWAY FROM HOME
    Bobby Bare

I'm 500 miles away from home
    Teardrops fell on momma's note
When I read the things she wrote
She said we miss you son we love you come on home
Well I didn't have to pack
I had it all right on my back
Now I'm 500 miles away from home
Away from home away from home
Cold and tired and all alone
Yes, I'm 500 miles away from home

SPOKEN: I know this is the same road I took the day I left home,
but it sure looks different now. And I guess I look
different too, cause time changes everything. I wonder what
they'll say, when they see their boy looking this bad.

Oh I wonder what they'll say when I get home
    Can't remember when I ate
It's just thumb and walk and wait
And I'm still 500 miles away from home
If my luck had been just right
I'd be with them all tonight
But I'm 500 miles away from home
Away from home away from home
Oh I'm still 500 miles away from home Yeah your saying I knew It!, plum

Cowboy, I coulda guessed you'd be right on...but #2 is still out there. And You were always on my mind was an Elvis biggie too...suppose a few others sang it too.

Mac Davis was a great writer...is he living?Seems like he passed a couple yrs ago. I loved his stuff...and he was pretty easy to look at too :-)

    OK.my turn again...

1-Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around

2-And talk was small when they talked at all
They both knew what they wanted

3-With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats
    You can't say we're satisfied

4-Well the bigger the city, well the brighter the lights
The bigger the dog, well the harder the bite

    5-Movin' me down the highway
    Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

    Cowboy
