I know of a cong that has created a blanket rule:

"minimum of 6 hours per month by a brother and his family = being used for sound or microphones."

Yep, when asked why, and where is this in print in the WT, I was told "That is the way it is!"

Now, for an MS or Elder, it has to be minimum of 13 hours per month.... Again..."where is this in print?"

These men are afraid of doing wrong so crave rules for themselves. Without rules they would be out of their depths, lost.

Because they have given their mind's away they think everyone else needs nannying too.

Let them get on with it. The only one who can change their minds on this (actually give them different rules that they will love) is the CO.

Stop being a man pleaser, you owe them nothing!

Some elders take the position of being one as a means of self empowerment over others and they at times extenuate that self perceived power

to compensate for their own inner insecurity of themselves in the real world..

One could define this behavior has spiritual strength among the rest of the social environment within the congregation.

I also find amusing that a person such as suavojr would come to the largest and oldest JW apostate web site in the world to complain

about an elder who over extends his power and control in his Congregation.

The mental health of some JWS has to be put to question.

Most of the congregations I've been in have had something similar to this. The actual number may vary, but there is always a minimum number.

Talking about qualifying for certain privileges based on your field service can be very open to interpretation. I remember when they were building the assembly Hall in the local area. When i first applied it was rejected and I was told the reason was me been a 1-2 hour publisher. Then a couple months down the track when they were in urgent need of labour and the work wasn't getting done, field service wasn't the main qualifying factor.

Trust me I sincerely thought I could do it and with in the space of 18 months I walked out of the Hall for the last time. Hey I realize we are all different and if you can Play both worlds then power to you.

I remember some Circuit Overseers stating what "Exemplary" should be for most brothers. They were to be "Visibly taking the lead"- Code word or SEEN and above National AND LOCAL field service averages. Some halls had 5-6 hrs for ANY jobs in the hall. 10-12 hrs to be appointed. 15 hrs to be appointed if he was NOT a brown Noser.

I found it weird even then, that a car load of brothers could go out every week together and all turn in such vastly different service time. It would range from 5-15 hrs per month. So the one brother (with 5hrs and super strict conscience) could not run mikes, but the guy who turned in 15 hrs (and lied) was "exemplary".....???????? (and yes in these cases I did check if they were "out", had studies, or other time).

The whole concept has no basis in anything from the bible or ANY relation to being a good Christian or leader.

It is a good thing it discourages the good ones so they "See the light- tatt" and leave.

As to how to knock a Nazi off his "high horse" ? Simply "peck" at his reputation with Questions to the pioneer church ladies. They are big gossipers and have the circuit overseers ear- and get pumped for information. Was brother "_____" at the ? I heard brother_____kid did__" I know it couldn't be true. You get the idea.
