Most Elders would look down on gambling EXCEPT when they're out in Vegas or Atlantic City, or the Local Casino boat. No one can show me from the bible where gambling for fun is a sin. With all things, you can go overboard, but in and of itself Gambling is fine.

It's not really gamibling in Reno or Vegas - you're just paying for those "free drinks" by putting money into the little vending slots right?!! (tee hee)

I went to Vegas once and won 200% times my investment!!!!

-- it was a quarter put in a slot machine because I felt guilty sitting on the stool and not playing while waiting for breakfast.

I told the 'friends', including an elder or two, at my bookstudy during goodie night and it elicited only a smile or two. Not even a snide smirk!

If you get caught, you can use my silly story!

what i might expect if it gets out?

this is one of those things that jws make rules and regs about...

they teach the borg that gambling means you are looking to satan the "god of luck" (mentioned in psalms) rather than relying on jehovah. therefore it would be evil of you to gamble.

but it doesn't seem to be a priority for them to punish...

i mean, which would they prefer to form a committee for?
asking a young woman, whether she was wearing a thong and did she enjoy it? or a boring "how much money did you spend on slot machines" question.

so the answer to me meme's question depends, in part, on...

how much power and influence you have in the borganization?
do you have a title like elder or pioneer?
what kind of status do you enjoy in your cong?
do you frequent the right political circles?

if it gets out is, indeed, the main thing.
who it gets out to, also plays a role.

    Yeru is right...
many dubs go to vegas (or wherever)
yes elders and pioneers included (*gasp*)
and even tell others about it (the rebels)
conveniently saying 'it's a conscience thing'
as long as they don't make a practise of it.

even lotteries that support a good "cause" are frowned upon
by the jw religion with the reasoning that if you win,
it is at the expense of everyone else that played...
and therefore your support of lottery doesn't show "love of neighbor".

so, if it got out and you weren't in the right political
circles, you could be charged with one count of relying on the "god of luck" and several counts of failing to "love thy neighbor".

losing your privleges leaving you with more time on your hands to well, hone your gambling habit. hehe.

    haha. whatever.

Someone very close to me was DF'd for gambling.

This person had responsibility in the cong. A wordly person mentioned to a witness that they saw this person at the casino. The witness told the elders.
This person was hauled in before a judicial comittee and stripped of all privledges and publicly reproved. They were told if it continued they would be DF.This persons mate turned them in later for gambling again and then they were DF.
This person was put to death spiritually for gambling. This happened just over a year ago.

    Spaz,
This person was crushed and felt so worthless that they went on a gambling binge for months after their selfrightious mate kicked them out of the house! They couldn't live with a DF'd mate. The sick thing is the elders did not discourage this.

After 911 the Df'd person went crawling back with tail between legs claiming to have stopped and was reinstated shortly after. I do not believe this person has stopped gambling I just think they learned to be more decietful.

    Okay,This would be my advice.

If you don't want to take any chances then don't gamble.

If any of the elders don't like you they can and will use something like this to nail your ass to the wall.

If they all absolutly love you they will probably look the other way unless someone makes an issue of it.Which brings me to this, if you do gamble, don't talk about it to other Jws or let it be known in the community.
