I am a big fan of the Meyers Briggs, I took many classes while in the corporate world. It helped me a bit to break free mentally, because I realized that most JWs are probably a different type than I am. It helped me realize that it wasn't that I was defective, I was just not like everyone else. As rebel stated, most likely there are a lot of J types in the org. J, for Judger, is not necessarily a bad thing, it's just people who are Judgers are more likely to be black and white thinking, law and order types. I am the opposite, a P, for perceiver, more likely to see the shades of grey. It was my belief that Js would have a much easier time in the religion. You might be missing that aspect of the religion, the strong sense of values and order.

Another thing that occurred to me is that you have this moment of being a part of a group, everyone in their nice shiney clothes, of pride in your fellow JWs, but the price you paid for that moment was hours and hours of boring talks. I myself found the few positive things about a convention weren't worth the price of admission. You could join a church and get that feeling and only have one hour of services, and if you pick the right church it could be a very entertaining hour.

    Just something to think about.

    Rebel8,

I usually come out INFP but just took that test and came out INTP.

I think once I came up INFJ but just once.

I like psychology so have taken the test multiple times.

It doesn't really nail me but is insightful nonetheless.

Let me start by saying that I always enjoy your posts and perspective. you're a great encouragement to me personally, and I'm sure many others.

One thing im still learning to do is to separate the corporation from the indoctrinated masses. Yeah, there's a ton of good-hearted honest folk in the org, but the prevalence of good people in the org is not because the org is good but because good people are the easiest to take advantage of. Stay strong in the face of the endless indoctrination sessions. Have confidence in yourself, and by extension the conclusions you've reached through the use of your god-given (if you're inclined to believe that way) critical thinking and reasoning skills.

Im not looking forward to the upcoming convention, but I'm looking forward to your (and other's) take on it so that I may be prepared to plant seeds with my wife that camp eventually free both of us. Anyway, just know you're not by any means alone in your still struggle. Stay strong not just for yourself, but for everyone who needs to see that their situation isn't hopeless.

JWs need to be organised because they have to control their members. The dress code provides a veneer of wholesomeness but the people are no better or worse than anyone else. Outside of the convention there are witnesses who are abusers, drunkards, bullies, lazy, stupid and uncaring.

It is marketing pure and simple.

Conversely outside the organisation people are permitted to be open about their tastes, likes and dislikes. Because they are more random it does not make them bad people. As witnesses we were conditioned to think that certain dress styles equated to good people and others to bad people. Dress is just what we wear what we are and do is far more important.

As soon as I stepped out of the Convention Ground, or on the way out even, off went the tie, that had been loosened all day anyway, and the jacket went over the shoulder.

I hated the tie with a vengeance, and I hated the whole idea of a Uniform. I always thought of Jesus, he melted in to the crowd of his contempories, and could not be chased and found, because he was dressed in a way that matched the crowd of ordinary people.

JW's whenever I see them going to Meetings or out in F.S look utterly weird.

Our family is finding that the liberating unabridged gospel message, hidden in plain sight throughout scripture, helps us to see a more unified picture of the human race, and to see the heart, rather than the external appearance which as Billy said can be carefully crafted window dressing, especially in the case of religious folk.

TE - Order and punctuality can be reassuring but such high control comes at a cost. Remember: Mussolini got the trains to run on time! Fraz

I just spent a lovely w/end with my family only one of whom was jw (my sister)all friendly loving people who dress nicely only one smoker (always trying to quit!!)

They cannot comprehend the others of my family who will not socialise with their kith and kin but choose to shun and be judgemental of our lives.

The most important aspect of any person is surely not outer appearance but the love and goodness within.

    Best wishes
