Is it true that the GB is soon planning on ditching the 1914 doctrine?

I think the process of ignoring it, as dear NewYork44m says above, has started. First they consigned it to the Appendix of the "Bible Teach" book, and then they proceeded to simply mention as a fact that Jesus began his reign then, or that it marked the start of the "time of the end".

Most younger JW's have no idea how 1914 is arrived at, nor do they care.

When it slips away as 1874, 1925 and then 1975 did the WT/GB will breathe a sigh of relief, because it is their Achilles Heel.

No 1914= no 1919= No choosing of an FDS = today's FDS are self appointed Charlatans of the first order.

They can't ditch it! That new grey bible has a big hullabaloo about it at the back.

Whatever they do it will be to get money and power for the paedophile protecting men in Brooklyn.

Sure it does, but who the hell actually pores over footnotes and appendixes?

When it comes to doctrines that are obviously no longer tenable, the WTS' M-O has always been to talk about it less and less (verbally and in written form) until they stop talking about it at all, then act as though it was never a big thing if anybody brings it up. Case in point: the 7000-year creative days.

The real problem is that we're in the Information Age; by regularly focusing on the WTS' past errors, fumbles, and closet-skeletons, their opponents are making it increasingly difficult to sweep embarrasing things under the rug and hope everyone forgets about them.

Not to mention that the discoveries of science and history that refute long-held religious beliefs are surging forward at a pace that ultraconservative religions - by their very nature - don't have a snowball's chance in hell of keeping up with. It's why a lot of them simply holler and denounce it all as godless and Satanic.

The overlapping generations idea is anchored by 1914. It's already embarrassing how many times since 1995 they have had to change the "this generation" definition. Change 1914 and you can bet on yet another change to the definition. Not sure they can afford too many more embarassments.

I don't think they will get rid of it yet. They are still screaming 100 years of the Kingdom, and we know that's goes along with 1914.

    Excellent quote Blondie!

It reminds me of the old Sat. night routine of the exorcist. At the end he reads 666 on the forehead of the kid and looks at it backwards and says "we are all right it 999 not 666. It's not 1914 it's 4191. So don't worry. Still Totally ADD

So they are ok with celebrating their "birth" of the kingdom. Sounds like a big 100th birthday party is being planned. They make no sense to me...
