This is painfull for me to admit because I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, but:

    Original artist: The Beatles
    Remake: Aerosmtih
    Song: Come Together

    and

    Original artist: The Beatles
    Remake: Grandaddy
    Song: Revolution (very different version)

    and

    Original artist: The Beatles
    Remake: Fionna
    Song: Across the Universe

    Original artist: John Lennon
    Remake artist: Roxy Music
    Song: Jealous Guy

This one was unfortunate, as it was meant to be a tribute - I don't think it was Bryan Ferry's intention to better the original, but he did it anyway.

Original artist: Gary Numan / Tubeway Army
    Remake artist: Sugarbabes
Song: Are Friends Electric / Freak Like Me

This one isn't really a cover per se, but I love it anyway. The man himself prefers it to the original, so who am I to argue?

oops. that wasn't a remake, he just stole the beat and didn't give them a writing credit.

Since somebody brought up Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, I'd have to add that Bryan Ferry's covers of "smoke gets in your eyes" and "These foolish Things" are fantastic.

Ry Cooder does a great cover of "Blue Suede Shoes".

One of my favorites: X's cover of "Breathless". (Jerry Lee Lewis sang it previously)

    Original artist: Chuck Berry
Remake artist: Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)

    Song: Roll Over, Beethoven

This song was a perfect fit for ELO's classical-rock music fusion. I saw them perform it live in 1981.

Don't let yesterday use up too much of today.--Will Rogers, 1879-1935
