JW Kids - More Frightened Than Most?

Englishmen, you have raised an interesting topic about fear among Jehovah's Witnesses. Fear is the main control perpetrators have over victims. The fear instilled by WT through continues long drawn out talks, articles studies etc. slowly works into the psyche of the members. In children it is overwhelming. Just about a year before we decided to leave my little daughter, the youngest who is now 15 but was around 7 at the time wrote in her school journal that "I am scared because I am a Jehovah Witness and I don't celebrate holidays",. She was fearful because she was damned if she did and damned if she didn't. The fear of going to school and being "different" is extremely disruptive to the normal growth process in children where part of normal developemnt is to fell accepted and to fit in. The fear if she tried to fit in, and lose acceptance in her Church community and ultimately with the Watchtower god of cruelty and murder. This was very very upsetting to me as a parent more attuned through my other daughter's situation of being emotionally abuse through fear of discipline by elders if she told about her abuse. I began to feel I wanted to get out and get my children out. It is also a fact that many adult Jehovah's Witnesses are currently on medication for panic attacks. I had been plaqued by them during the battle through the years with elders over my daughters molestation and dealing with the Watchtower Society over it. When I got into therapy, my therpist said that I had symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the panic attacks were trigger by entering the Kingdom Hall. The root of panic attacks come from fear, and helplessness. I am no longer on medication for panic attacks and have not had any since leaving the Borg. Fear is a terrible thing and the WT must be guilty of many suicides, heart attacks, and cancer because of what the stress hormones do to the body and mind.

    Xander / Valis:
Remember that sad Awake article on D&D?

I remember being told to get rid of my dice (ah the memories of the D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20) and a wave of irrational fear went through me, as my parents explained that the game could be linked to demonism.

Later that same day I was sick that I had wasted all those good die, and burned those books!!!
I just toddled off and bought a different RPG.

People here act like they are SOOOOOOooooo concerned about the kids. Yet what do most worlding teach their children? Premarital sex is okay. To talk profane is alright. To watch lewd entertainment is right on. Puffing on cigs is not that bad. What a sick world.

And last, most parents do not discipline their children like they should. The world is a bad place and children should know it.

Premarital sex is okay. It is OK, it's the extra-marital sex that is sought out by those who were prevented from enjoying pre-marital sex that causes the problem!

To talk profane is alright. It's only words, no big deal,I find it mildly offensive, others don't. There's more important issues here.

To watch lewd entertainment is right on If you mean risque films, you watch what you want to, I'll watch what I want to, why does it cause you a problem?

Puffing on cigs is not that bad Hey, if you want to narrow your arteries by 30 % every time you smoke, that's your affair.

The world is a bad place and children should know it. The world is a fine place, most people are decent and honest, you just focus on the bad 1%!

(now, everyone image a great pile of it.....manure let's say.....and....look close.....there she is..............HILDA THE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!)

As for the post, E-man, yes, I was afriad for my friends at school a lot of the time, sometimes praying that I could 'save' them while crying....why? Becasue I beleived in the fantasy that the JWs shoved down my throat.

The whole system is built on fear, but the bait is everlasting life...that's why the JWs are sick to me. They say "You can live forever on a parasdise earth!" but forget to mention that their beleif is that "worldly" relatives, family, even themselves can die for something as simple as watching an R rated movie, or using their minds to honestly question things.

Lisa, I remember that experience too! And the fear that it was going to happen here soon. I also remember writing a letter to President for Life--oh, what was his name? Hastings K. Banta? Something like that. I think I was about 8 or 9. I had nightmares after one of the meetings where they gave experiences from Malawi.

Granted, I actually knew where Malawi WAS, which is a bit more than most second-graders--but living with that kind of stress took its toll. I always had stomach-aches at the meetings. My mother thought I was faking to get out of the meetings, but I believe it was from all the stress and fear. In particular, one picture of Armageddon from the "Paradise" book would set me off--it showed a huge crack in the earth, and stuff falling in. What got me was the tricycle and the puppy being destroyed. What kind of sick mind thinks that's good stuff for kids? My mother started "studying" with me from that book before I could talk. (Shudder)

Jankyn, wishing I could have grown up reading Pooh Bear instead of the Paradise Book

    Englishman:

My comments were talking about what parents teach their children. Let us try this again, dear.

:Premarital sex is okay. It is OK, it's the extra-marital sex that is sought out by those who were prevented from enjoying pre-marital sex that causes the problem!:

Besides using flawed reasoning here, the propter hoc fallacy, you miss the point. How can you say that you are interested in protecting children or saving them from bad things like "fear" if you think it is fine for them to have sex before they are married?

:To talk profane is alright. It's only words, no big deal,I find it mildly offensive, others don't. There's more important issues here.:

Profane terms are not just words. Out of the heart's abundance--the mouth speaks. The words emanating from one's mouth serve as an indicator of the condition of one's inward parts. You may think young ones can speak profanely and grow up just fine. I KNOW that profane speech does not uplift or edify or contribute to happy youthhood.

:To watch lewd entertainment is right on If you mean risque films, you watch what you want to, I'll watch what I want to, why does it cause you a problem?:

I am talking about kids, sir. Now do you see the problem?

:Puffing on cigs is not that bad Hey, if you want to narrow your arteries by 30 % every time you smoke, that's your affair.:

What about kids who are not wise enough to realize they are killing themselves by smoking? Are you in favor of letting kids smoke if they want to do so? If so, how are you in favor or protecting children?

:The world is a bad place and children should know it. The world is a fine place, most people are decent and honest, you just focus on the bad 1%!:

Oh the world is just fine. September 11, Israel and Palestine, drug dealing, immoral sex, profane and blasphemous speech, lewd entertainment aimed at kids, crime, Bill Clinton. Oh yeah. The world is just fine, English.

    Dear ash:

You just wish I would go away, don't you? That is what happens everytime someone comes to this board speaking the truth. People run scared in this place like animals with their heads severed.

Men always hate strong women. You people also like to have one-sided conversations.
