It seems to me that geographical location is a major factor in which god a person might worship as well as the period in history too.

Use a canon of scriptures that jews and christian have tweezed and teased into shape, then lawyered into layers of meaning and you have a church version of salvation.

The early church(not early Jesus followers) ignored the "heretical" gospels that cast salvation and jesus as pointing out that love---not faith---is preeminent. Love is the salvation that transcends this world. Heaven is not the reward.

"I cannot give you a straight rational answer to that question

If more religious people would be this open an honest we would have far fewer religious zealots and a far happier world

Is there not a scripture which says " of all these love is the GRATEST " putting love above faith .I believe in love you don't need god or to be saved to show it. And in my opinion its what makes for a happy fulfilled life.AMEN to love!!

    You bet, galaxie,

1 Cor. 13:13--"Now abideth these three-faith, hope, love. But the greatest of these is love..."

    The whole chapter is beautiful.

    Really--"AMEN to love!"

There are at least two viewpoints to the once saved, always saved scenario. I don't think about being saved.

Being legally saved is a "free gift" that cannot be earned, deserved or paid for.

One imagines the only way to lose salvation granted on such generous terms is to actively reject it - like the Pharisees, who pursue a competing religious agenda and kingdom (fiefdom).

Salvation is a process that unfolds in stages:

I have been saved from the authority of Satan, sin (dysfunction), sickness, suffering and death.

I am being saved from the power of Satan, sin (dysfunction), sickness, suffering and death.

I will be saved from the presence of Satan, sin (dysfunction), sickness, suffering and death.
